My family and I have been visiting this Czech restaurant practically since it opened in 1979. It underwent a disastrous fire some years ago but rebuilt in a location nearby and everything stayed the same! By the owner's admission, the menu hasn't changed since the inception of the restaurant - only the prices have changed! We always order the Weiner Schnitzel which is excellent and is served with tomato salad. There's goulash of course also, served with traditional Czech dumplings. The wine list is short, but most people enjoy the Czech beer! Apple strudel or crepes for dessert. Always busy - make a reservation.

I am not Ukrainian and have never been to that country. I really do like this food type, especially the stuffed cabbage rolls and the perogies, which I have eaten in homes around the city and have purchased in local supermarkets. That is my disclaimer. As for the food here, we found the prices reasonable, the portions acceptable, and the plate servings interesting. Based on what we have read here, we experienced authentic Ukrainian food and that was special. We found the stuffed and cheese covered potatoes and crepes to be interesting, different, and new to us. I had the meatballs and my wife had the sausage both were good but my meatballs were better. The perogies were fine but tasted very similar to what you would find in most grocery stores in Edmonton. The cabbage rolls had no meat or tomato sauce so that was a disappointment. I guess that way stuffed cabbage rolls are made varies by region and taste. We like our with meat and rice. In closing, we were very happy with our meals and the great service because it felt like we were on the road again in a foreign country sharing a meal with locals. Can't wait to bring my grandchildren here to experience the food and the charm.
