Reviews on Eastern European food in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, Romania. Cluj-Napoca is the unofficial capital of Transylvania, and though you (probably) won’t find vampires here, you can explore castles, fortresses, botanical gardens, museums and parks. Cluj-Napoca has a vibrant arts scene that embraces both the traditional and the progressive. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy classical concerts, theatrical performances, puppet shows and music of every genre, from jazz to modern pop to electronica.

After trying the local cabbage dish throughout Romania we think the cabbage here is really the best one at Varzarie. It tastes really yummy, not too salty and too sweet, perfectly eaten with the pork ham or grilled pork. Highly recommend. Tip. The parking is a bit difficult to fins and all parking space are the meter paid one. You can park on the roadside in front of the restaurant. Also the next door Betty Ice ice cream house is a good place for dessert after you finish your meal here.

If youâre in Cluj-Napoca for a visit, you must try the restaurant Casa Veche. Itâs situated in the heart of the city, where history is strongly felt. The same can be said about the special building this restaurant resides in. Itâs XIX century arches are i
We had a very good meal here. The service was friendly and efficient, the food very good and the atmosphere enjoyable. Iâd particularly regiment their Papanassi - they are the best Iâve eaten in Romania (Iâve eaten quite a lot as I love them :) We went back for a second meal and had another excellent meal (and I really rate their Papanassi!)

MaimuÈa PlângÄtoare este un restaurant cu istorie, ale cÄrui preparate vÄ vor încânta! VeÈi avea parte, în fiecare farfurie, de o minunÄÈie!
This a very nice restaurant, suitable for lunch and dinner. The serving was flawless, we really enjoyed our meals. They have different specialities, I recommend the tripe soup, absolutely delicious. The wine list is quite good so is worth trying a good red wine. The day recommendation was a steak, kobe, with smashed celery and some fried cherry tomatoes! The prices are decent so next time Iâm in Cluj I will come back to this restaurant. It is preferably to use a taxi, parking might be a problem in that area.

Typical Romanian Food and atmosphere, two locations in the town
We searched for a good traditional Romanian restaurant & went to this one based on the customers' reviews. What a great choice! They serve mostly traditional Romanian food but international options are available, too. Vegetarian options are available, also. The food (appetizer, main dish, and desert) was like a home cooked one and delicious & the wine list comprehensive, offering some great Romanian wines. Excellent service, too and a nice, pleasant atmosphere. Great value for the money. Highly recommended!

Café Bulgakov was opened at the time by favour of György Méhes's son, the businessman Elek Nagy, and it was managed by Ferenc Kovács gastro-lover and the now retired János Dénes Orbán literateur and tavern-keeper. The establishment was sanctified on 12th
I'm a solo traveler and was staying nearby so this was recommended. I was there at an in-between time. Not lunch rush and not dinner rush. There were maybe 4 tables of people when I arrived. I loved the building & the many options as to where to dine. Indoors. Out on any of several patios. likely more. When I arrived, a waitress was walking away from me. I stood in the doorway waiting to let someone know I was there. I stood for quite a while. (I do think she saw me.) A waiter wizzed by. I was able to glance the food he was carrying and get an idea of a portion I wanted, but not to get that waiter's attention. A group of 5 guys who finished eating got up and stood at the counter to pay. I could tell they were regulars. I asked one of them what he prefers there. He said Goulosh, and realizing I'd not tried that yet, knew it's what I'd get. However my waiting continued. I finally broke in and asked one of those wait-people if I could sit and eat. Yes, sit anywhere. I sat at the table nearest the door and counter. I waited some more. After a little while, I waved to order. The waiter came over and I ordered. The waiter asked if I wanted bread with that. I asked if that was the common way to eat it and he said yes. So soon after I had my meal. I did really enjoy my first real Hungarian Goulash. I can't say it's the best ever as I have no comparison but I did like it. The meat was clearly good quality. It was tender. The potatoes where perfect. I loved the sauce. Upon finishing my meal, I realized this was the style of the staff -- that they let us get their attention rather than come to ask us. In ways, I like this. So when I saw a waitress I got up to ask for my bill. In the meantime, I had all the time I needed to enjoy my meal and didn't feel pushed.Thank you so much for your kind words. We really appreciate you taking the time out to share your experience with us. Hope to see you again if you're ever back in town!

We have been for 3 days in Cluj, with family, end up in the first night for dinner, we went back every single day. I had work for the last 20 years in Hospitality business in 5 stars establishments, with international clientele, with European, Asian and American cuisine, but so far this was the most memorable culinary experience that I ever had.The food is out of this world, everything fresh, home made. Kudos to the chef. The service was impeccable, with a level of friendliness and professionalism that you don't find anymore. We like to thank one more time to all the staff of Valahia, and assure them of our gratitude for making our experience memorable. We will definitely come back.

We went to have some delicious lamb burgers that we had other times and we really liked. I donât know what happened, if they changed the chef but the dish was disappointing: hard bread and old, reheated fries that seemed to be from the bottom of the pot, not a single whole one as size. And there were only a few tables, not a full restaurant!Thank you for your feedback and appreciation. We are sorry the food wasn´t up to expectations, we will announce or kitchen about this.We look forward to being of service to you again.

Taste of Transylvania.
A friend and I had dinner at Zama and wanted to split the check, but they refused and got really upset that we had even dared to ask. Then we asked to see the bill so we could calculate each person's portion, and they refused to give us a copy! WTF?We had only ordered four things: they could have easily split it into two checks and let us each pay by card in FAR LESS TIME than it took us to figure out how much each person owed, go through our wallets, try to figure out if we could make change for each other, gather the money, and pay. They truly don't care about their customers. The food was fine, but I was so shaken by how rude they were, it ruined the experience.

Roata Restaurant is a traditional Romanian one serving dishes from Transylvania and other Romanian regions. We welcome our clients to find more of Romanian culture and culinary style through foods, beverages and music in a relaxing and cozy atmosphere.
A very cosy establishment, friendly service, and very good food although a bit pricy.Anyhow, I felt cheated, because I ordered a traditional dish : VENISON GOULASH, but I got regular beef goulash, although tasty, but even though deceiving customers, and taking them for fools, you can do only once.Pity !!
