Passable diner to start a Tuesday morning. Cute location in an old vintage diner car with a disconnected juke box and comfortable booths. Breakfast was straightforward and quick. I had a Belgian waffle garnished with walnuts and bananas. The waffle special entitled me to two eggs, any style, and unfortunately my scrambled ones were just one small step above awful. Mostly dry as requested, but also gooey from being mixed in oil, and bland from perhaps being scooped out of a vat of pre-mixed eggs combined with too much milk. They might have been more consumable if the server had given me hot sauce or something else to add flavor. My son had a stack of French toast with two poached eggs, properly cooked, opting for the $1.50 side of Vermont-made syrup. Not a big deal, but something about having to pay a supplement in Vermont for syrup from Vermont doesnât seem right. Itâs too bad they donât include in the price and use as a selling feature. Both plates had enormous slabs of butter on the side which the chef probably dispensed using a rubber spatula. Sorry, but this was a turnoff. What happened to individually wrapped butter?Pricing was deceptive. We politely declined the obligatory offer for coffee and juice as soon as we sat down in order to peruse the menu first, but we never found the prices written anyway. I was charged $8.95 for my Belgian waffle & eggs combo. The waitress first said there would be no problem having the bananas and walnuts waffle but then revealed that the normally included sausages would be extra. Strange, since a la carte, the Belgian waffle with bananas and walnuts cost $6.50, and a side of two eggs cost $1.75. Water was served on request after we finished our meals.

This was my first visit to Dot's Restaurant. It really has an incredible history, having been rebuilt after devastation wrought by Hurricane Irene -- search it on YouTube. Kudos to the owners and the town for what they accomplished. We went for dinner and that, I believe, was a mistake. Beer bottles were plopped down -- no glass offered. My Chicken Pesto Linguine special was not so special and not so hot (rather lukewarm, in fact). Bland. And overpriced, as all the entrees appeared. Finally, there's a big TV behind the counter. Please remove it. (At least there isn't a salad bar.)There appear to be a number of interesting spots in town for dinner that will be tried at some point in the future. Dot's Restaurant -- clearly diner food -- will be put on the breakfast bucket list. Especially the blueberry pancakes which sound awesome.

Along this stretch of country highway, there are not a lot of restaurants, but we are glad we stopped at the Townshend Country Diner. The food is simply delicious. My fish sandwich was piping hot. The ecclectic decor adds a homey feel to the place.

This is a classic diner with excellent food. It doesn't have tables, but two very large oval counters where everybody sits together and eats. We ate a wonderful breakfast here --- the classic eggs n' bacon, home fries with onions, home-made (I think) toast, juice, and coffee. Friendly service, excellent food, and a down home atmosphere. Great little spot. No wonder the locals love it. So did we.
