Reviews on Contemporary food in Zurich, Canton of Zurich, Switzerland. The largest city in Switzerland is a major contemporary art and shopping destination. Important artworks are displayed in the Kunsthaus and the Rietberg Museum, while those who consider shopping an art can hone their skills along Bahnhofstrasse and Niederdorf. Chagall's stained glass windows in the Fraumunster amaze and Zurich's 500 clubs and bars, including several in swimming pools, pulse with life 'til the early hours. This city on Lake Zurich has excellent public transit and a free bike rental system.

We arrived at Rechberg 1837 on a balmy summer night and chose a table outside, directly viewing the cathedral and the large library in the soft light of moonlight and street lamps. The setting was perfect: Secluded in the back of the square, we felt far away from the bustle of the city. The host, who is one of the owners, greeted us warmly and explained the menu. The concept of this restaurant is interesting, and every detail has been well thought out--Each dish is intended to represent the year 1837, which is also the year the building was constructed. Everything at this restaurant is very personal, from the menus presented in books written by the one of the proprietor's forebearers, to some of the antique crystal stemware handed down within the family. We ordered the tasting menu of ten courses, each of which was lovingly handcrafted with the greatest of care. The talented chef, Carlos, stopped by our table and explained that they source everything locally within Switzerland and most often from nearby suppliers, then strive to use each item with as little waste as possible--even going so far as to make special blends of savory spices from dried ingredients. We ordered pairings with our meal, and each was selected from local wines and libations, including wine made from grapes grown just outside of Zurich. Presentation was creative, and the courses were delicious! Each one offered a unique taste of Swiss cuisine at its most traditional, while carefully maintaining the standards of the very best of today's modern dining. Each dish was meant to be savored, with the flavors unfolding in a relaxed way. In fact, the entire dining experience was comfortable, not stuffy, with the emphasis placed on the food and the experience of the guests. Truly, we found Rechberg 1837 to be an exceptional, memorable life experience and a highlight of our visit to Zurich! As such, we are pleased to recommend this dining experience to business associates and visitors alike.

Special dinner with family - special it was. An interesting experience we were pleasantly surprised by the food offerings and the quality. Very good tomato/mozzarella salad, outstanding beef with couscous, cooked avocado (excellent) and another vegetable that we are still debating (seeing your food IS important). Ice cream was clearly home-made, another bonus.Definitely something to try at least once - book in advance and "play the game" (remember to shut off your phone, put your fluorescent watch in your pocket, etc.).

You know that feeling you get when you eat something and you feel it in your 5 senses. Thatâs what did restaurant did to me! I donât want to reveal too much about it, please do yourself a favor and dine here. I fully recommend the 6 course meal as the portions are small. Itâs not cheap 6 courses either veg or fish and or meat combination for CHF 148. You even get tasty palette cleansers . Iâm just surprised this restaurant isnât Michelin rated.

We went for an early dinner so were able to get a table without booking. This restaurant is not large but is obviously popular so I would recommend making a reservation.Other than pizza and pasta the menu is fairly limited, a couple of meat dishes, same for fish and for specials. As we sat there we saw many customers come in for take-away pizza. Depending where one sits they can be a nuisance and the staff had trouble getting past them for much of the time. They needed a separate window to the outside for pizza orders and collections!Although this is an Italian style restaurant, we didn't notice anyone who spoke Italian. There is a good selection of wines on their list and service was fine.
