Le Vigosche A Pleasure for the Eyes and the Palate Thierry and his team welcome you to the heart of Châteaugay, a winegrowing village in the Auvergne at the threshold of the Regional Park of the Volcanoes, overlooking the Limagne plain, offering wide-rang
Located in the pleasant village of Chateaugay with stunning views Le Vigosche is somewhat of a mixed bag. The "Patron" is very friendly, attentive and professional my issues come with the cooking/presentation.On the face of it the different menus offer very good value for money considering the quality/noblesse of the ingredients.Having said that there was a certain clumsiness in the cooking, why serve toasted brioche with foie gras if it's cold.Main course steaks were overcooked and served with a toast covered in pickled courgette and microherbs on the top, something we had seen on the previous course and really had no place on top of a warm fillet steak with a red wine sauce! In fairness the host offered a pleasant and complementary trou normand to apologise for the errors and upgraded the deserts for the whole table, even then he should have asked as my daughter was dissappointed not to have the desert she ordered. It pains me to write this review as they do so much right, if they could just eliminate some silly errors this would be a great place to visit and offer great value for money.I hope they do as I would like to come back.....

This restaurant opened up a few months ago, and the owners - a couple - are giving a new breath to the local cuisine. Its welcoming staff and simple decor keeps it relaxed. I've walked past this location dozens of times and until I was asked to join a group here for lunch, I had no idea there was a restaurant here. That makes me sad for all the times that I could have dined here -- but didn't. If only I had been wiser....I'm never quite sure what to make of the often brutal French reviews for restaurants on TripAdvisor. Sometimes they amplify points I agree. Sometimes they make a bigger issue than I might make over a minor transgression. In this case, I am simply baffled. The service, from the moment the doors were opened, was impeccable. The dining room is, indeed small and, yes, a reservation is advisable -- but the small room adds to the atmosphere. It doesn't detract from it. If you have a reservation, you'll appreciate the ambiance. The wine menu has a broad selection. For our varied lunchtime meal choices, we were thinking a red Sancerre would work and we were pleasantly surprised to see this uncommon wine on the menu...for a terrific price, too. (Beware: Loire wines are listed in the same section as Auvergne wines, so don't skip past the Loire offerings when skipping past the Auvergnat wines, as I almost did.)The fixed menu offerings are reasonably priced and allow for ample flexibility. If, however, you stray into the a la carte section of the menu, the prices skyrocket. If money is an important consideration, there's no need to depart from fixed menu options -- even for vegetarians. As for criticisms regarding portion size, perhaps it was the fact that we were dining at LaMartne for lunch, but I had no sense that anyone in our group would leave with hunger pangs. This holds true whether ordering price fixe or a la carte. All in all, as lunches go, this was one of the best experiences I've had. Once you find Pavilion Lamartine, you'll be glad you did.

Had the most lovely time with family here. The food was divine and the service was top notch. Definitely would recommend to visitors to Clermont-Ferrand. Prices reasonable.

While visiting in Clermont-Ferrand, my daughter recommended Il Visconti. Delicious food served in an intimate and cozy atmosphere with very good service, friendly and welcoming staff. Our entire family enjoyed a wonderful lunch here. The plat du jour or the menu items offer dishes for everyone. We enjoyed it so much, that my husband and I returned for a second lunch visit. I highly recommend the linguine alla vongole.....excellent, perfectly prepared or the pumpkin risotto which is unusual and delicious. Make reservations! This is a popular restaurant with limited seating.
