Reviews on Contemporary food in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Canada's largest metropolis, Vancouver is a city of varied landscapes and diverse population. Its mix of the scenic and urban mean that weekenders can spend the morning taking advantage of its beaches, ski mountains, and hiking trails, only to kick back in the evening at first-rate restaurants and wine bars among a labyrinth of skyscrapers. As friendly and welcoming as it is ethnically diverse, the streets are crowded with different languages being spoken everywhere, and the city's sights, sounds, and flavors are a hodgepodge of warm multiculturalism. It is a haven both for the urbanite and the sportsman, offering all the sophistication of a modern city center, with a strong focus on the arts and a burgeoning cafe culture, but with charming suburban outlets and easy outdoor day trips. Though the city is often split into three districts, Vancouver and its surrounding environs feature multiple neighbourhoods, each with their own character and draw, in one massive conglomeration. Take your time and explore as many of them as possible.

On our second night in Vancouver we chose Sai Woo Chop Suey for dinner. Very cool decor with a nice cocktail menu and decent beer selection. Our waiter helped us choose our meals. The Vietnamese spring rolls are VERY unique. Really crunchy with a great filling. We had the Chungqoig ribs and duck with fried rice as entrees, as suggested by our waiter. The dishes meshed very well for sharing with complementary sauces and textures. One caveat, which has nothing to do with the restaurant, if you take public transportation DO NOT TAKE THE BUS TO CARRAL & E HASTINGS! Google will direct you to this bus stop because it is closest, but it drops you off in front of a social services building whose "clientele" appeared to be hard drug users. I have definitely been in bad areas growing up in NYC, and this was without a doubt one of the worst situations I've found myself in. Be smart and go one stop more.Thank you for your feedback. I am sure other travellers will appreciate to know to g one stop further if taking the bus as Hastings Street can be unpleasant to walk through. Glad you enjoyed your meal i appreciate your review :)Salli

Simple seasonal family-style dishes, from pizza and pasta to veggie salads and share plates.
Great restaurant with lovely atmosphere. However it's really noisy and hard to hear your partner across the table. Delicious food it's a tapas sharing place order 4-5 dishes between two people. The Arctic char and fried chicken are musts! It's a pricy place a glass of 5 oz wine is 14$ and most dishes 20$ and above but worth the price for special occasionsReservations recommended.Servers and all staff are great here

I really don't know what everyone is talking about with this place. It really isn't up to fine standards. It took 10 minutes for anyone to greet us and take a drink order. The pain was just starting. The oysters were inedible. I am amazed as they are local but tasted like a septic tank. We sent them back and got equally inedible replacements. The saving grace was the sushi which was decent. The wine was poured in tiny glases. You are much better off getting a bottle. The rest of the meal was poor to average . The ambiance was great as was the location but poor service and food don't make up for it. If you are looking for an outdoor seafood restaurant with a good raw bar look elsewhere.Dear valued guest,Thank you so much for taking the time to review Ancora. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not live up to your expectations. The oysters has been a great hit among our patrons so your feedback will certainly be passed along to the chefs and their team to ensure that the dishes are being made with consistency. We will also follow up with the servers in regards to the wine. If given the opportunity we would love to host you again soon and give you the amazing experience that we are so proud to offer here at Ancora.Again, thank you for your feedback and if you have any other further questions, comments or concerns, please feel to contact us at [email protected] Sincerely,Kelly Jordan HamiltonSales and Marketing Manager

Very nice restaurant, in my opinion an old bank building, there was a vault...trendy, saturday night and fully booked so I imagine reservations are recommended !Short menu, with good option, good choice of wines...and what you get is delicious, the portions are not large so you can certainly go for a three course dinner, if not four !friendly and professional service, past a delightful evening.Dear Anthony, thanks for leaving us such a wonderful review. Local food brought in daily and prepared fresh for service. Defining Canadian cuisine.
We were 3 friends dropping by the restaurant last night. We decided to go for the âChef Menuâ which was fabulous. The staff and Trevor were all very friendly. We visited Fable before and we will visit again. They offered us excellent original food, reminding us of restaurant from back home. They donât have âlarge batch manufactured foodâ. We had a very nice evening great experience thanks to Trevor and his crewThank you so much! it was a pleasure to meet you and have you here!

We had the tasting menu. Crazy delicious. Complex, layered flavors. One of the most delicious meals we have had anywhere in the world. Excellent service, good ambiance, delicious cocktails. If we lived here, we'd eat here all the time. Given the weak Canadian dollar, this was, frankly, a bargain!
