I ordered the 'Fish' (at $26 well above average cafe prices even at the Mount). It was delicious. The white fish (species not identified) was cooked almost perfectly still juicy but cooked with tasty caramelisation on the outside. It sat on a sea of kumara (sweet potato) mash, which provided and earthy sweetness - one that I at first questioned when paired with delicate white fish, however, the miso shitake mushrooms cut through the mash adding their own notes of salt and savoury. I think the sesame brittle not only added to the beauty of the presentation but helpoed tie the mash (sweet and earthy) with the mushrooms (Asian and slightly sweet and savoury). Perhaps because it really was perfectly cooked (I resisted using the word perfect because surely anything could be a little better, but my only complaint about the fish would be that as I ate the residual heat gradually tipped it from perfect to ever so slightly overcooked, but still tender juicy and delicious) somehow the delicate fish held its own as centerpiece against the vigorous competition. Barbara also remarked how beautiful the plate looked. Her chowder was good. Her only complaint that she prefers some chunks of potato to a truely smoothe chowder but then she grew up in Ireland ;)Thanks for sharing! We always appreciate honest feedback and specially such detailed ones. I can only apologise for our waitress not having told the fish of the day, which was Hapuka. I will make sure our Chef Chris sees your wonderful compliments on his food. Hope to see you again soon.

We decided at the last minute to go out for dinner on New Year's Eve whilst on holiday near Tauranga. Lucky enough to find a table at Nomad early in the evening and we had a lovely time listening to the music and enjoying our food. I had the cauliflower risotto which was so delicious! My husband had the lamb rump which he also enjoyed. Both meals were excellent. We opted for a dessert to share - a chocolate fondant. Heavenly! Highly recommend this restaurant.

Cafe closed for August 2018 - We are closed now for our winter break - reopening on Fri 31 August :) Nothing is more tantalising than the heady smell of baked goods. The Falls Cafe know this seductive scent well, as they are a haven of home-made cakes, br
We've been coming here regularly for years and the food and coffee have been consistently excellent. The ingredients are always good quality and fresh and the baking is amazing. It's a family run business in a breathtaking setting. The staff are always welcoming and good fun, the place is relaxing and family friendly and it's just a lovely place to brunch on a lazy Sunday morning.

A special celebratory lunchtime treat turned into utter disappointment sadly. We all ordered Market Fish @ $36 which was supposed to be pan fried with a creamy sauce. What we received was wet fish in a spicy broth, with gnocchi and a few scallops. Definitely not up to the standard expected or previously enjoyed at this restaurant/bar.Change of chef perhaps, but we all agreed that our meals were below par and certainly not as the menu suggested.

Stopped off here for a quick lunch on our way down to Lake Taupo, but shouldn't have bothered. We had a couple of mains washed down by tea and cider all for NZ$41,which isn't particularly expensive, but I'd have paid more for better service - this was the thing that really let them down. In short, other customers on tables round ours came in after us, but ate and left the restaurant before our mains even arrived! Being a quiet, reserved Brit I didn't want to complain but just as I was about to our order was delivered and it wasn't worth the wait anyway! Very poor and disappointing.
