This is the downstairs bar restaurant as opposed to Tomahawk , the steak restaurant upstairs. The Lotus Lounge is once again called âHideâ so a reincarnation of a previously good eatery. On this occasion the place did not really live up to its previous reputation. A popular bar which gets very noisy later on as the average age drops! The food is unsensational akin to Wetherspoons but not better. Not a place to celebrate a special personal event but probably okay for large work groups of younger adults

Having been introduced to Middlesbrough's legendary 'Parmo' by a business colleague on a trip to the city in January 2018, at this very restaurant, it's become my 'go to' spot for lunch or dinner whenever I have to work in Middlesbrough. For a start, the 'Parmo' here is great (and I've tried a few different options in Middlesbrough since then). For the uninitiated, a 'Parmo' is a breaded cutlet of chicken or pork topped with a white béchamel sauce and cheese. It's origin is reference to the Italian dish parmigiana, which is a meat cutlet covered in tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. I'm not sure where the name of the bar / restaurant comes from. Maybe it was a chemist's shop. The decor is definitely of the kind you'd find in a bistro in Paris, so maybe that's the reason for the French name. It's welcoming, cosy, bright and cheerful, with nicely-spaced and nicely-laid tables. Service is efficient and considerate. As a business traveller eating solo on many occasions, I'm always curious as to how the solo diner is looked after. Are you stuck in the worst table, and forgotten? Not so here.On my two visits on this trip, I had the 'Chicken Parmo' on both occasions. The lunch £5.00 special of Parmo, chips and salad was more than ample for me. The same offering at dinner, with a significantly larger "Parmo', was equally as delicious, but simply too much for me, and I had to leave a portion. At both dining experiences, the meals were delicious. It's a really pleasant spot, and is popular with locals. Service was efficient, and friendly. The bill was correct, and will not break the bank. I think it presents excellent value.I will definitely be back!
