I was on a business trip and chose the Terrace at George's at the Cove for dinner. The challenge was that our reservation was after sundown so the beautiful view was black. We may have well dined inside. The restaurant is busy and when we visited, crowded. Tables are close together and it can be challenging to carry on a conversation. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and dinner. Service was very good and accommodating. The appetizers we ordered were fine, but not particularly special. The grilled octopus was excellent, but the hummus plate and chips and salsa were pedestrian. The dinner menu is relatively small but has something for everyone. Each entree in our party was good, but not perfect. My halibut was overdone. My colleague's pork chop looked amazing, but didn't come with the advertised grilled peaches. In place of the grilled peaches, my colleague got a dessert on the house. Even so, it seemed that George's on the Cove took for granted that we would love our dining experience because of the location- however the food should be the star.If visiting La Jolla, George's at the Cove is a fine place to dine... just go before sundown to enjoy the view... as that is the main entree.

View from the restaurant is unbeatable. Outstanding. Food mostly very good. Over-priced but very good. Service was definitely below average. For this price, we had to ask for waiter several times. We had to literally get up to call for waiter. Absolutely unacceptable for this price. We were celebrating wedding and it was especially annoying. Quality of service and wonderful view was absolutely over-shadowed by very non-attentive service.

Amazing restaurant...gorgeous food, great menu. I had the Mac n cheese with the short ribs (pictured), hubby had chicken tacos, eldest had ring of fire burger and youngest had a cheeseburger...all delicious. We also had a bottle of the local Chardonnay (also yum). Location and style is informal but also pretty cool. Will probably re-visit which is uncommon for us as we like to try out different places.

We are in California the winter, for the past 16 years. We enjoyed 3rd Corner last time so we joined their Wine Club. Each Sunday we would receive their menu special for that day. We have now been three times on a Sunday. Their special menu is excellent value with a choice of adding wine pairings. The three course dinner varies from Shrimp Pasta, short ribs and fish with. Ikerosine options. The only problem is parking so we have learnt to go early and park on Bacon Street and walk!

We had to wait for a table because this place is popular! It was well worth the wait. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Staff was attentive and quick. The only negative is that we wanted to sit on the patio instead we were seated upstairs next to the bathroom. Not exactly the view I would have liked to have had. At least there were plenty of windows to look out of.

We decided to walk in to the Veranda around 7:30 last Friday night. It was busy, but we requested Vickie and knew there would not be a problem. Even the hostess mentioned "Vickie is a strong one, she can handle another table." We sat and were greeted within a minute, by an energetic and surprised Vickie! Whenever we come in we sit in her station. She did not know we were coming and she was so happy to see us.We decided to share a bottle of wine and split a few appetizers tonight instead of ordering entrees. We munched on some bread and tapenade while we waited. Tapenade = A+, bread = C... it was cold and dry. We had the margherita pizza, brisket quesadilla and shrimp bruschetta. The shrimp and brisket were out of this world and we wished we had ordered one order of shrimp each! The pizza was ok - it would have been better with a thinner (by at least half) crust. It was pretty thick and dry.Our daughter had a kid's burger with fries. The burger was a bit overdone, but I assume because it was on the kid's menu... but the fries and the bay seasoning were delicious and crispy.Creme brulee for dessert ended the meal well.Even if the food is not always ***** (5 stars), we know our experience will be if we are in Vickie's section.. and that was the case. She's always so happy, efficient and upbeat. 5 stars for Vickie, 3.5-4 for the food tonight, for an overall 4. We will be back.
