The picturesque city lies in Germany’s far southeast corner near the Austrian border. Settled since prehistory and a former hub of the salt trade, it became the Roman village of Batavis, then later the Holy Roman Empire’s largest diocese and a sword-making center. Saint Stephan’s Cathedral, home of the world’s second-largest cathedral organ, is one of Passau’s favorite attractions.

We stopped in for a drink and ended up staying for dinner. Cool and trendy inside and a beautiful garden, where we sat for dinner. Excellent wine list. Friendly service and great food. The iberico pork chop was delicious. All the choices are imaginative and contain the freshest ingredients (we saw them bringing in the mushrooms at 5:30pm). There are many good restaurants in this small town, this is an excellent one!

This is a perfect place to relax for awhile over a glass of wine or a coffee. Friendly, English speaking staff. Fresh flowers and lit candles throughout make this place warm and cozy. Free WIFI and clean restrooms. They make their own pear and apple brandy from the Black Forest which is excellent and not overpriced. They have food too- fresh. Meats and desserts look wonderful. Great find.

The food was really great, the beer average, service good. The location of the toilets is a bit awkward, and it was also a bit cold at the tables near the entrance hall, and of course in the hall itself.
