Modern Mexican in the Heart of Historic Oaxaca. Tasting Menus with Reservations (Tues - Sun). Rooftop Bar with Casual Fare.
We arrived here on hotel recommendation. Perhaps we arrived on an off night, yet there were limited food choices on the menu. I am vegetarian, and trip advisor had this restaurant listed as vegan and vegetarian. We could not find much on the menu. One other side note, the area in which they sat us had a distinct smell of animal hide/leather. Not a good place for a vegetarian.

If you can sit upstairs on the deck, the ambience is nice. Downstairs, its nothing special. The food was good but nothing to shout ablout. Its a nice touch that the waiter makes fresh salsa and guacamole at your table.

I always come back to Lusicaru every time I visit Oaxaca. It's a fantastic, sun filled, romantic space, with great food and service. It is also a wonderful art space, filled with the crafts of Oaxaca, many of them for sale. Overall, a soulful experience.

We eagerly returned to Luvina after first visiting last year. This year we encountered a nearly empty dining room, disinterested service, and really unremarkable food. Something has changed and not for the better. The worst part of this experience was the lack of attention by the staff and the lackluster food. They seemed to have cut back on everything that added dimension, flavor and service. It just seemed like no one in the kitchen or on the floor really cared about what was happening at the table. The tortilla soup was completely tasteless, bland, and boring. The tacos were average at best. The mezcal is offered without the previous presentation we had last time, just plopped in front of you with a plate of cut up oranges and some salt. The lack of customers does not bode well for Luvina, which should be one of Oaxaca's best dinner places. If they continue to slip on quality and service they may not be there by the time we return on our next visit.
