Reviews on Contemporary food in Island of Hawaii, Hawaii, United States. Life on the Big Island is a little bit slower… and locals like it that way. The natural beauty and ecological features of the island are a draw for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Test your chutzpah at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to the longest volcanic eruption in recorded history, or climb to the indescribably beautiful summit of Mauna Kea. At the end of the day, there’s nothing more refreshing than a quivering plate of fresh poke, followed by a fruity shave ice.

Award winning unique drinks, acai bowls, sandwiches, gourmet local ice creams & house made soft serve!
This was an awesome late-lunch stop on our visit to Hilo from Kona. Everything about this funky little eatery was exceptional, from the friendly, young staff, to the selections of food, smoothies, and ice cream, to the decor.I ordered a pork sandwich that was hot, delicious, and came with a side of purple taro chips--all delicious, and large--I was more than filled up with my sandwich. My wife got a turkey sandwich, and our daughter, not terribly hungry yet on vacation, convinced her parents to let her order an ice cream sundae for "lunch". Between the three of us we also shared a smoothie.So. Many. Good. Tastes. This hole-in-the-wall place, off the main business street in Hilo, is well-worth your time to seek it out and have some great island grub.

In the heart of Kailua-Kona on the second floor of the Historic Waterfront Row Building sits Mi's Waterfront Bistro. This Chef-owned and operated restaurant takes old world technique and combines it with modern fare to create dishes of uncompromising qual
Great place for a little celebration and some very tasty pasta! Oceanside table was the perfect place - not a bad seat on the patio as everywhere there is a great view. Service was excellent. Pasta was al dente and perfect. Fish special was wonderful and full of flavor. Minor disappointments was a charge for a bread basket refill (but worth every penny) and also the added on charge for the kitchen staff in addition to the wait staff. If you believe your kitchen staff should be paid more then pay them more. The food was excellent! A definite must visit in Kona!

Fairmont Orchid's AAA Four Diamond Brown's Beach House restaurant is well known for incomparable Hawaii Regional Cuisine and a spectacular oceanfront setting. Our innovative cuisine draws from simple pure flavors of locally grown produce and a diverse var
We ate at Brownâs one night during our stay at the Orchid. The food was excellent, especially the Compressed Watermelon Salad Roasted Beet Salad and the Beef Filet Mignon. The Coconut Guava Chiffon was embarrassingly bad. Dry with little flavor. It was at the top of their list so we were expecting something special. However, I can give this restaurant a good score because, as a whole, it exceeded our expectations for a restaurant in Hawaii with this kind of location. If they had a 3 or 4 course menu like many restaurants have in Europe and Japan where you have the opportunity to try several of their dishes instead of having to do a share option with your fellow diners it would be so much better. We dined after sunset, but I think most people would have a better time before or at sunset.Mahalo for joining us at Brown's Beach House! We are happy to see all you enjoyed during your dining experience and appreciate you sharing your honest feedback regarding your dessert selection and our menu options. As we are always looking for opportunities to grow and provide an exceptional dining experience for each guest, please know your comments will be shared with our Food and Beverage Department for review. We hope to welcome you again should your travels bring you back to Fairmont Orchid. Warmest aloha, Tara Harrington, Director of Guest Experience

What a cracker of an eatery. Everything we had was delicious, especially the seafood pasta which is easy to mangle in lesser hands,. The owners young children took delight in serving the tables and good on them for learning responsibilities in this regard. This place as far as we can tell is the absolute stand out in the area around Captain Cook. We heartily agree with everyone who has rated this highly. It is wise to book as it is very popular, but we walked up and got an inside table on a week night in summer. Plenty of car parking off street.

I can understand why The Strawberry Patch has its loyal fans. You'll find nicely some prepared meals in an unassuming environment at modest prices. Many fans, but I am not among them. This is a BYOB place located alongside the busy Hawaii Belt Road and you will soon find out that truck, motorcycle and car noises will be your dining companions. You'll find the dinner menu is loaded with pasta, cheese, and chicken dishs but no red meat. There are also three curry dishes with various levels of spicyness and your choice of vegetarian, chicken, or shrimp. The very best thing was the baked brie board. This is an outstandingly beautiful serving of baked cheese artfully surrounded by fruit and edible flowers. My yellow curry was bland and I wish I had opted for something spicer. My wife's chicken picatta featured a gristly flattened and breaded chicken breast portion topped with a nice caper/lemon sauce. It was adequate, at best. Our consensus was that this was our least favorite meal on the Big Island.

They are only open for breakfast and lunch w three tables for two. Small little eatery that requires reservations. Was lucky to call around 10:30 and get a returned call at 11:30 for a spot that opened at lunch and we were only a block away at the Saturday farmers market. Limited menu for breakfast and lunch. My tuna bloom was very fresh tuna salad on a red tomato along w a fresh green salad and some toasted baguette slices. Enjoyed it as a light fresh lunch on a warm day.
