Riohacha (Spanish pronunciation: [rjoˈa.tʃa]), Rio Hacha or Rio de la Hacha (English: River of the Axe or Axeshore - Wayuu: Süchiimma, "Süchii" means river, and "mma" means land, Riverland), is a city in the Riohacha Municipality in the northern Caribbean Region of Colombia by the mouth of the Ranchería River and the Caribbean sea, capital city of the La Guajira Department. Founded by conquistador Nikolaus Federmann in 1535, Riohacha was named after a local legend "The legend of the Axe". Owing to the powerful rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the area is mostly desertic and inhabited by Amerindians, predominantly by members of the Wayuu ethnic group. During colonial times Riohacha was a very important port due to the discovery of vast numbers of pearls. In the second half of the 20th Century, the city became one of Colombia's medium important, maritime commercial ports as well as a multicultural center for La Guajira Department. The city is mentioned several times in One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera, and Chronicle of a Death Foretold, novels written by Gabriel García Márquez.

We went two straight nights (December 27th and 28th) for the waffles with various toppings including Nutella and strawberries for me. We wanted Colombian Palomino atomsphere which is exactly what we got. Open air, not fancy but clean. The owners were super friendly and the waffles were outstanding both nights. I noticed they serve other meals and if we would have stayed in Palomino longer we would have visited for regular meals. Highly recommended.

We both had lobster and I they were very small and even tougher than is normal for warm water lobster. I will say that the service given by our waiter (Luis) was excellent. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated and a pleasant place to dine.
Be there early morning for a croissant and coffee, or later in the afternoon for a pizza boulangère and a soft drink, anyway be there and enjoy the quality of this french bakery ...it s the last one before El desierto, or Cartagena....asi que disfrutalo...la vida te da sorpresa!...

We ordered a seafood casserole that came with one mussel, two clamps, a shrimp and some octopus and calamari, tastewise was so so.We also ordered "calamares rebosados" that were cold, we told the waiter, then he retired the calamari, fried them again and put them in the same dish. When the waiter brought the calamari back we asked him if that were the same calamari and he answered "yes, we have fried them again so now they are hot". After hearing this we put them apart and didn't touch them and after a few minutes the waiter came again asking if we still didn't like the calamari, we had to explain to him that we weren't expecting double fried oily calamari for such a high price and then he retired the calamari again and told us that we didn't need to pay for the calamari. This place looks like a wannabe fine dinning place but not worthy the try.Hi Underfish, we really appreciate that you have taken the time to share your experience at Yotojoro. Our seafood casserole is made with 250 gr. of seafood (shrimps, calamari, snails, octopus, clams and mussel), we are sorry that the portion did not fulfill your expectation. About the incident with âcalamares rebozadosâ, we are working on making sure that this will not happen again. Thank you for your comments; we are committed to improve any negative aspects and continuing offering excellent service. Hope to see you again in the future.

Found this place thanks to TripAdvisor. This is a modern and bright place on the seafront. I really liked the good-sized terrace out front which is something that many of the other top-rated restaurants in Riohacha don't have. I was there early on a Friday evening but it quite quickly got busy so I think it would be a lively place later.Service was excellent from start to finish. And the menu is great- ceviches, cazuela, inovative arroz dishes, seafood and much more. Ceviches and starters are around 17 000 - 20 000 COP and mains from about 22 000 COP for an arroz or pasta but more for a fish or seafood dish of course. Beer is probably on the expensive side for Riohacha- 5 700 COP for a Club Colombia. But there are cocktails starting from around 10 000 and a bottle of wine starts at 60 000.  I had a difficult time choosing! I would have loved to have a ceviche to start and then a main course. But unfortunately I had eaten a big lunch so I finally settled on the Arroz de Playa y Mar (28 000 COP) - and it was huge! It was bursting with seafood - and the caramelised coconut was excellent!Only small gripe would be that there was no white wine available by the glass - but aparently this was an exception so I won't let it stop me giving 5 stars based on my experience on the night. I only wish I had another night in Riohacha so I could eat here again!RB_BRU, Thanks for commenting, your opinion is of great value so that the KNOA restaurant continues to improve on its service, we are very happy that you had a great experience with us and that you took the time to give us your rating, we hope you come back soon And by then, to be able to receive it with our best bottles of white wine and with the best delights of our varied Caribbean menu.

La Jaus is a colourful and upbeat restaurant located in the heart of Riohacha´s historic centre. Our menu is a honest mix of the best both Mediterranean and guajira cuisine has to offer where our local products are the stars. From tasty entries which are
My friend and I went to La Jaus on our one night in Riohacha, and we had a great time. The restaurant has an atmosphere of its own, with outdoors and indoors sitting options. The food was very good - while original at the same time - reasonably priced, and the staff very attentive. Definitely a must for high quality cuisine (mix of local specialties and Italian cuisine) in Riohacha! (Do give pizzas a try, they are original and excellent)Thank you so much for your visit and for taking a bit f your time to share your experience. It is awesome to know you opinion.

Restaurante fundado en 1997 ofrece un menú elaborado con frutos del mar y de la tierra cuidadosamente conservados y preparados con un bouquet exclusivo adquirido por una tradición familiar en el arte culinario de más de 60 años.
When we arrived we got a lot of stares from the staff, but little service. We basically had to chase down the waiter (owner?) to place an order and even then it took an inordinate amount of time to get a bottle of water (which we were desperately in need of).Once the food finally came, it was great. The cazuela was flavorfull and full of seafood. The filets of fish were fresh and tasty. The stuffed calamari was delicious as well. Even the coconut rice was tasty. Nuevamente Muchas Gracias.

I spent two nights in Riohacha last April-2019-and had dinner here each night. This is a lovely place to dine at.The food is excellent and so reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and professional. In this regard I want to pay tribute to Fernelis and Cesar-two very nice people....My guide book was right : this place DOES serve the best food in town...The restaurant itself is clean and attractive and it all makes for an unforgettable dining experience...Definitely worth 10 out of 10.
