We went here on a very busy night in Newcastle after the championship rugby final. It was extremely popular and rightly so as the food was excellent and the staff were all friendly. We had the banquet and it was probably the best we have had. Drinks are very reasonably priced. At the end of the meal the manager sorted taxis for us which was much appreciated.

A nice but not faultless meal awaits you here. Good food but not brilliant was our opinion. Usual soup, then crispy duck was not the best we have ever had but ok. The duck was a little disappointing in the fact there was just enough for 2 wraps each, not quite enough on the serving plate. It was also not crispy as it is promoted as.The 4 main courses arrived, 2 delicious, 2 average. Only small bottles of Chinese beer available or CANS available in bitter or lager. Odd........not a great customer choice.Service friendly and a good bit of banter but it is down to the food and drink which are slightly below par.

Found through a web search this restaurant in Newcastleâs Chinese quarter. Food was tasty and plentiful. The young waiting staff were very attentive. When booking over the phone they failed to mention that they had recently lost their alcohol licence, but were very accommodating in providing beer from a nearby supermarket. On the downside, it was quite noisy (and only 3/4 full), the seats were uncomfortable and tables a touch too close together, but this did not spoil the evening.

Chilli Padi Bistro & Asian Kitchen is referred to as a hidden gem by both local and international students of Newcastle. It's situated on 6-10 Leazes Park Road NE1 4PF. This bustling restaurant specializes in authentic Malaysian cuisine ranging from, but
Chilli Padi is clearly a popular eating place and was very busy during our visit. The atmosphere was good and we were looking forward to our meals. However we all came away disappointed and felt the food failed to meet our expectations. For example, my king prawns with chilli sauce came with lots of ingredients but the consistency was dry. Shelling the prawns also presented a challenge so the meal just wasn't enjoyable. Service was friendly but haphazard - our drinks arrived after the food and we had to ask on at least four occasions for them. Obviously this is a great place for many, just not for us!
