Trincomalee (English: /ˌtrɪŋkoʊməˈliː/; Tamil: திருகோணமலை Tirukōṇamalai; Sinhalese: ත්රිකුණාමළය Trikuṇāmalaya) also known as Gokanna, is the administrative headquarters of the Trincomalee District and major resort port city of Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. Located on the east coast of the island overlooking the Trincomalee Harbour, 113 miles south of Jaffna and 69 miles north of Batticaloa, Trincomalee has been one of the main centres of Sri Lankan Tamil language speaking culture on the island for over two millennia. With a population of 99,135, the city is built on a peninsula of the same name, which divides its inner and outer harbours. People from Trincomalee are known as Trincomalians and the local authority is Trincomalee Urban Council. Trincomalee city is home to the famous Koneswaram temple alluded to in its historic Tamil name Thirukonamalai and is home to other historical monuments such as the Bhadrakali Amman Temple, Trincomalee, the Trincomalee Hindu Cultural Hall and, opened in 1897, the Trincomalee Hindu College. Trincomalee is also the site of the Trincomalee railway station and an ancient ferry service to Jaffna and the south side of the harbour at Muttur.

Nice restaurant, the staff is very cordial, and the decor maid of wood give a nice atmosphere.Go for the kotu, prepared fresh in front of you.You can as well take away, like what many locals do in this restaurant, it's the proof that the place is good!

We were a family of 4 adults and a baby of 2.5 years old. We wanted to try a seafood platter. Price table/Menu mentioned price Rs 1900 for a sea food platter with (Crabs, Cuttle Fish, Fish, Prawns) with French fries and Salad. We made sure to confirm if the portion was sufficient for 4 people and we were told YES by the owner lady there. When the bill arrived we were charged Rs 6000 for the platter. When questioned why, the owner lady said they used Jumbo prawns in the platter and that's expensive..we never requested for Jumbo Prawns. Even if they did use Jumbo prawns it was more than three times the price mentioned on the price list. Be sure to confirm price before eating. In addition, service charge of 10% was added on the bill without any prior indication.

During our one Month trip through Sri Lanka, we stayed 2 days in Silaa cabana (great place to stay!) and ate in the silaa cafe. Thanks to the chef Max and his experience in being a high end chef for years in resorts and expat compounds around the world, the food here was the best we had on our whole trip! You can stay and eat here all day:For breakfast, the banana pancakes were delicious. For lunch or dinner, the prawns were super fresh and the devilled sauce was delicious. Also the accompanying fruit salad was great. Everything was cheap as well.If youâre not hungry, you can always visit this place with great athmosphere and personnel to have a talk with max about anything, but try food, music or his new Italian coffee machine for a great passionate answer :-)Thanks for the great time!

I landed here accidentally as I was lost enroute back to my hotel from the beach and the owner was so gracious in helping me that I decided to go back for dinner that evening. What can I say, we went back for all our meals the three days we were in Nilaveli! The food was excellent, the service is impeccable, they are friendly and completely professional and I wish I could take them with us for the remainder of our time in Sri Lanka! The food was fresh, beautifully presented, and very, very tasty! They arenât normally open for breakfast but did just for us! I didnât want to stop eating here!

We were lucky to be part of the BBQ (chicken/fish). Jerry, the cook of the place makes a great job. Also the local rice&curry i highly recommend.

Wow, what an amazing, quaint, little spot. Me and My 2 friends went to go eat here after walking past it and boy were we pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and the food was packed with so many different, mouth-watering flavours. All in all a really cool place to spend time with friends, have a glass of wine and enjoy delicious food.

This beach restaurant has it all - good food, cold drinks, a fantastic setting and a great owner. We visited on a couple of occasions - once just for drinks then we returned to eat. The owner is a really nice guy, because it was quieter than usual he stopped and chatted to us for a while. He also recommended places for us to go during the rest of the trip. The banana milkshakes come with ice cream in and the Lionâs are perfectly chilled, even better when you enjoy them overlooking the beautiful beach of Trincomalee!

One of the best and cheapest rice and curry we had in Sri Lanka! Buffet for only 400LKR, very diverse vegetable curries that changed everytime we went there. We also had tortillas and they were nice. Staff is friendly, there is a nice outside sitting and they also have sink to wash your hands. All combined, we ate here almost everyday. :)
