Find out what Chinese restaurants to try in Taipei. You can eat very well—and very cheaply—in Taipei. The restaurants may not look posh, but the quality of the food is superlative. And there’s a huge variety of restaurants—in addition to local Taiwanese specialties, you’ll find regional cuisines from all over China, as well as great Indian, Japanese and even Italian options. Just make sure to leave some room for snacks—street-vendor food here is addictive.

Opened its door on 1965, Umeko Taiwanese Restaurant authentic Taiwanese cuisine serving international guests for over fifty years with top quality produce and the irreplaceable ingredients of pride, tradition, and excellence. Located in Historic Liu Tiao
In principle, Iâd give 4.5 stars as it really is a good restaurant with very friendly waitresses (who even speak a bit of English, especially the elder lady owner)... the only âproblemâ was that I had eaten in the sister restaurant (right opposite) the night before. Dear kla2015Thank you for sharing your "problem" with us and we are delighted that you visited both our Umeko Taiwanese Restaurant and Japanese Restaurant right across the street from each other. There are very few restaurants in Taipei over 50 years of same-owner history, we are very proud of this fact. We also want to THANK YOU for your support and happy that you enjoyed your dinning experiences twice.

I made a reservation after reading other reviews. As i know this restaurant used to be very popular but it seems like the quality has gone down since then...?I felt the foods were ok, nothing really special. No dish that surprised me.The restaurant itself is very spacious, but there weren't even 1/2 filled with customers on friday night.Unfortunately I wouldn't go there again...Dear,Warmest Greetings from Leofoo Hotel.First of all, we would like to thank you for taking the time to leave the suggestions online, and we always appreciate when our guests take the time to share their concerns with us, so we can continue to improve our service. We will keep enhaning our service. Le Palais was definitely the best Chinese I ever had so far. The 28 days old roasted baby duck was an ala carte order-3 days in advanced. Lightly marinated with chinese herb- super crunchy outside yet the meat is extremely tender. The rack and the left over meat can be done in 3 ways- boiled with sour soup, cooked with porridge or stir fried with salt and pepper. The tasting menu in another hand came with some surprise and some dishes was kinda let down. Personally I like the fish maw soup the most follow by wok fried noodle- nicely done without any oil. The abalone and the asparagus with crab meat was not memorable- not bad but just far from my expectation from a 3 stars Michelin restaurant. The service was flawless once I stepped out from the lift, being guided by the hostess all the way to the washroom before proceed to a semi-private 4 seaters dining area. Service staff were also well-trained in the description and taste profiles of every item in the menu, and introduced the dishes in the most poetic and soothing way. While it is said that Michelin inspectors judge based on just the taste alone, I truly believe part of the reason why Le Palais works is due to its opulent décor. The ambience is so remarkable- with the best decorative material being applied and some very pretty cultural/traditional vintage pieces being displayed. The ambience is a bit dark and dim but in a good way-the central of each dining table stand out as a showcase.I am a typical Chinese uncle and I am so in love with Chinese food as I grow older and wiser. However, this was my very first attempt dining at 3 starred Chineseâ. Will I come back- oh definitely YES. For the sake of the ROASTED BABY DUCK, or perhaps I will try the roasted pork next trip...as well as the DIM SUM.Overall: 8.5/10.Dear huanyinchan,Thank you very much for visiting Palais de Chine and share your pleasant dining experience with us. We are delighted to read that you truly liked and enjoyed the experience in Le Palais and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future soon. We ordered the Tomahawk Steak Meal for 2 at around NT2000 and it was a great choice. The salad came with 4 small abalone and was delicious, the fried fish, chicken, and fries were excellent, the steak was cooked nicely and was of adequate quality, and the clam pasta was a lovely finish to a filling and fun meal.
