Things to do in Leek

We have visited here on many occasions but the quality of food and service is getting worse. There were 6 of us booked for my wife's birthday and we had to have a table set for us after we arrived. The place was freezing and there was only 1 waiter which isn't good for a Friday evening. The food was ok but portions small and although you can order more - the waiter seemed always busy so didn't bother. Had to ask for glasses for beer as just bottles put on table and it took ages for him to take our drink orders - at least 15 mins after we sat down which is too long and we were ready to order food even before he had taken drink orders.Used to be good but really going downhill and I don't think we will be back

Was just ambling along Eastbank St-(which is facing the Scarisbrick Hotel) when we noticed the Gourmet House. We walked in & was greeted by the young well mannered staff whom couldn't do enough for us. Never having tried much Chinese food-apart from a Friday night takeaway occasionally I was pleased I could just pick & choose from the buffet. I enjoyed everything I tried from chicken in black bean sauce-steak in black bean sauce-ribs-deep fried crispy chicken-spring rolls-onion rings-egg fried rice-oh & not forgetting their Broccoli-best I've ever tasted! Place was spotless-staff clean-tidy & nice to chat to. After a drink we tried a few desserts-Tiramisu was delicious-as was the trifle-chocolate fountain-little cakes & mini pots of something tasty All in all we had a pleasant evening-by the time we were leaving 9-30pm every table was full. We are regular visitors to Southport so will definitely dine in there again! Hope your visit is as good as ours was

Called in earlier tonight (Fri 7th Sept) for the first time to Mr Vongs, ordered a S&S chicken balls takeaway as I was on my way back from South Wales and had not eaten for hours. When I got back home I was unbelievably disappointed with what I had been served. The chicken balls were small in size, they were tasteless and stringy in texture, I can honestly say I've tasted better processed chicken nuggets which have been cooked from frozen. The small quantity of chicken balls received was equally disappointing. The flavour of the S&S sauce was disgusting as it was like tasting pure vinegar, there was no added veg that you would normally expect to receive in this particular menu item such as tomatoes, onion, pepper and pineapple. Extremely poor value for money, I will certainly never think about going back there ever again, in fact I will do a detour and stick to my usual Chinese takeaways, avoiding Mr Vongs in Leek at all costs in future.
