It lies just off Hawaii Belt Road on the opposite side of the island from Hilo, the county seat of Hawaii County. Its elevation is 52 feet (16 m). Because the community has borne multiple names, the Board on Geographic Names officially designated it "Honaunau" in 1914 and 1954 before changing to the current spelling in 2000. Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code 96726.

Itâs our old reliable for Wor Ton Min...a favorite soup big enough for two. Full of goodies ; chicken, pork, shrimp, won tons, noodles , mushrooms and greens. We had one between us for a lunch, plus an egg foo young, because we missed breakfast.Unpretentious, friendly staff , hot counter with reasonable plate lunch items. I. This shopping plaza you will find another fave of ours, Choicemart...excellent grocery, local items - just big enough and very pleasant staff as well.

My husband likes a bug Hong Kong style bowl of soup full of noodles, shrimp, chicken, Bok choy and will ask for it even if it's not on the menu. Well, they have it. They will customize it for you and the price is right.There is also a full menu of Chinese items and take out seems to be their main business. They have a hit table to choose from with daily specials. I love the egg foo young, and we've taken food out as well. Order at the counter, have a seat and your meal will appear with great efficiency. Terrific stop on our way home from Choice Mart in the same plaza. Or before... Never shop hungry.

Beijing Garden is under new management, and sadly the food isn't as good as it used to be. The variety and quality of ingredients has gone down, and the food is now very oily. Service is also less friendly than it used to be. I miss the previous owners and hope that the new management dedicates itself to providing higher-quality food than it does right now. It's gone from very good to disappointing.
