Things to do in Denville
I thought, situated in the center of downtown Denville that China Pavilion would be a great take out place but one visit and look around shows a tired and old business where the owner seems to have just given up and is just going through the motions. Having said that. the proof is in the food. I ordered a combo platter for lunch and went home. Upon taking a bite, the chicken had a fishy smell to it as if it was placed into old oil or oil that was used for another dish and recycled. I went to the internet to look at a few reviews and found similar comments, which is super disappointing. There is too much competition in Denville to have less than edible food. Ill pass here and go elsewhere until I can see improvement.
When you walk in the place it doesn't feel or look clean. The food is quite hum drum standard stuff you can find in any strip mall. Everything is perfunctory and nothing is notable. The prices are low but so is the quality. I've eaten there about six times when in a hurry and never finished the meal or felt good about the experience. Shame on me for expecting things to get better.
Every town seems to have a spot like this one...a basic Chinese take-out joint squeezed into a storefront on the main street. King's Palace fills the bill if you want freshly prepared Americanized Chinese in Denville. Not far down the street is the lavish Hunan Taste restaurant with a white table cloth approach to Asian cuisine. King's Palace is the opposite, no frills fast food. There are tables for those who want to eat in, but the majority of the customers prefer to carry out.
This is a small Neighborhood Chinese takeout business. My wife and I decided to choose something from the Lunch Special Menu which was very reasonably priced. I ordered the Pork Lo Mein which was good, and my wife had the Sweet & Sour Pork which was very disappointing except for the fried rice. We both had the Hot & Sour Soup that turned out too spicy hot for me to finish. They did have a lot of takeout business while we were eating there.

Veggie Heaven is right next door to probably the biggest Chinese restaurant in the area, so they must prepare food good enough to compete. What they serve is healthy Chinese food. All healthy ingredients. No meat: even their chicken and shrimp are made with tofu and other veggie products. Something different. Prices are reasonable. They start you with a small complementary dish of cabbage pieces,This night I dined on appetizers. I had a large pot of Oolong tea-$1.50; Won-ton soup-$2.50; a large portion of garlic sauteed spinach with rice (enough for 2)-$8.95; very large portion of avocado salad with dressing (enough for 2)-$8.00. Salad was tasty, but could have had more avocado. Spinach was a bit bland and had some tough stringy spinach-like veggie mixed in, The staff is pleasant. Overall, you receive quite a bit for the price.Next time I'll try a larger single meal.

We love Hunan Taste. Nice bar (full) in the front; plenty of parking in Denville center. Two nicely appointed rooms separated by a row of large aquarium tanks filled with tropical fish. Full expansive menu. Everything from pupu platters to dumplings various ways; tasty ribs. Love the traditional Peking Duck and Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. Always excellent service. Highly recommend.
