Reviews on Chilean food in Iquique, Tarapaca Region, Chile. Iquique (Spanish pronunciation: [iˈkike]) is a port city and commune in northern Chile, capital of both the Iquique Province and Tarapacá Region. It lies on the Pacific coast, west of the Pampa del Tamarugal which is part of Atacama Desert. It had a population of 180,601 according to the 2012 census. It is also the main commune of the Greater Iquique. The city developed during the heyday of the saltpetre mining in Atacama Desert in the 19th century. Originally a Peruvian city with a large Chilean population, it was ceded to Chile as result of War of the Pacific (1879–1883). Today it is one of only two free ports of Chile.

This place is awesome! Definitely no other place in iquique like this. Really cool on the inside with different types of rooms and a great menu. The food is delicious, patatas bravas are great for sharing with friends and I love the ceviche. They have a unique drink menu with funny names. The service is good, definitely better than other places in town, but still not awesome. There's a nice sitting area (gets super crowded at night) that opens up onto Baquedano St. I love this place and definitely recommend it!

A spectacular restaurant at the top of Terrado Hotel by Cavancha beach. We have visited it several times during our stay and it always offered great food and very nice and attentive service. As it's one of the highest buildings in the area the view from the top (19th) floor is worth coming anyway.

Restaurant La Pulperia is located in the food court on the first floor of the Zofri Mall. In the mall you find 400 shops of basically cheap Chinese made goods and a lot of Chileans walking around and shopping. Service in the restaurant was adequate and friendly. You are served at your table. We came on a weekday for dinner and the place was busy with locals enjoying diner. An elder lady recommended La Pulperia. We chose a sandwich with slow-braised beef, avocado, tomato & fries, and mango juice & beer. The food was acceptable but nothing special, just like you can expect in a food court. The Zofri Mall is only interested for a walk around. Goods are tax free but the quality of the goods makes buying uninterested for a traveller. When you like reasonable mall food, La Pulperia is the place for you.

Restobar located in Cavancha's calm peninsula, specially set to enjoy a special experience the better of the regional, Peruvian and Mediterranean kitchen. We rely on a bar that it offers coctelerÃa with the richest exotic fruits of the region and with a g
We had high hopes of this basically fish restaurant as we were the only two people in this cavernous restaurant. Well, they found us a table. We then got a bottle of slightly largely (and overpriced) expensive white wine. We ordered lasagna and fish soup. There was no lasagna, so that had to be changed to a cannelloni, and the fish soup turned out to be a mere white fish soup. So, a bit disappointing. The service, whilst incredibly nice, turned out to be slower than anyone could or should expect. Altogether a disappointment.

We tried twice because the food was so delicious. The service was great. Always busy. Sometimes the loud music was a bit annoying.

We were staying in Terrado Arturo Prat (in Plaza Arturo Prat) and intended having dinner in their restaurant but, since it didn't open until 8pm, and it was only 7pm, we decided to take a pre-dinner walk down the length of Paseo Baquedano to the sea front and back. When we got to the seafront we saw the 5-star Gavina Sens - a rather bland high-rise - and, on taking a look inside, found this very inviting-looking restaurant with panoramic sea views. The menu was very extensive, very delicious sounding (not your usual bland S.American offerings) and (even more surprisingly) bi-lingual and expertly translated into English. It was also incredibly reasonably priced - even the wine - given the 5-star venue and the view. So, of course, we had to give it a try, and we were astounded with both the quality of the food and the beautiful presentation. We began by sharing a Seafood Risotto (p8900, about $11) and it was one of the best and tastiest I've ever had. For our mains my partner ordered the "Asado de Tira" (short ribs) (p9500, about $12) which was somewhat disappointing because they were not grilled (Argentine style) but more like stewed. However it was accompanied by a most delicious choclo mash and grilled vegies. I went for a fillet with a chocolate and blueberry sauce served with quinoa (something like cous-cous) and green asparagus. (p13,600 about $17). We also had an excellent wine - one of their priciest - Toro Piedra Gran Reserva (p18,000 about $22). An absolute bargain..!!! Everything (aside from the typically bland and forgettable Chilean bread roll) and the rather unsmiling service was really first-class and I cannot understand why nobody seems to have reviewed this restaurant before. I very much doubt that there could be a better restaurant in Iquique if in all of Chile for that matter. And I say that as someone who knows the country pretty well..!!

I had the crab and cheese and the chicken and cheese empanadas. There is a great selection of seafood empanadas and they are reasonably priced. A good place to go for lunch if you are in the area! Yummy!
