Find out what Central-Italian restaurants to try in Siena. This Tuscan hill town will transport you back to the Middle Ages. Siena's grand cathedral, built in the 1200s, has treasured artworks and marvelous marble floors. The Piazza del Campo, the main town square, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's also home to the Palio, perhaps the most infamous horserace in the world. No goofy hats and mint juleps here—this is a medieval tradition involving bareback riders racing on cobblestones (so as you might imagine, it's quite dangerous). Siena is an easy daytrip by train from Florence, just 43 miles away.

My wife and I ate dinner here twice during a three-night stay in Siena. I found it in the Italian slow food book "osterie d'Italia guida 2019."Best to have reservations. The first night we got lucky as there was an opening inside. Two nights later we had to wait 45 minutes, and had a table outside. We saw many people turned away both nights.FOOD: 5.0.- A large grilled steak for 2 people: 5.0. We rarely eat beef, but had a craving. This thick juicy steak, simply prepared and grilled, was excellent. Before grilling the server brought the uncooked steak to our table for us to marvel at.- Pecorino Cheese Gnocchi with tomato: 5.0. I like gnocchi, and this was the best I have had. Large gnocchi that melted on my palate.- Italian Onion Soup: 4.5. - Risotto with local sausage: 4.5.- Lasagna: 5.0. Light, unlike in the US.- Steak Medallions: 5.0. Juicy and luscious.- Vegetable Souffle: 4.5.SERVICE: 5.0. Multiple servers, well-coordinated. Prompt and proud of their offerings. Very organized.AMBIANCE: 5.0. Not fancy, just comfortable. Inside was warmly decorated with nicely-used furniture. Low volume music (e.g, Beatles). Outside seating also comfortable.

The food is excellent. Very well presented, full of original flavours which blend beautifully. The wine list is impressive but if you don't wish to pay several hundreds of euros for a bottle you can buy by the glass, much more reasonable and very tasty too.Unfortunately the atmosphere is a bit monastic : very hard seating, repetitive music and since we were the only customers during the 90mn we spent there it felt very quite indeed. Quite relaxing after a day spent visiting but a bit intimidating. Probably ok if you want to hold your girlfriend's hand while you are whispering sweet words to her during the pauses between courses otherwise you might feel a bit lost !

We popped in for a quick snack without having done our research - and it was as good as previous reviews. Excellent panini made to order, nice vernaccia and very friendly service - very good value near San Domenico.

We loved this small family-run restaurant. They had seating outside along the steep street, but we chose to eat inside. It had a clean and modern feel. We ordered three glasses of Prosecco and a glass of the house red. Our waiter (who I think may have been the owner) was nice enough to ask us if we wanted a bottle of Prosecco for the same price. Two of us had the Tuscan Cacio e Pepe. It was amazing and done perfectly. We also had ravioli with meat sauce that my daughter said was fantastic and a pecorino stuffed spinach pasta with tomatoes, pine nuts and a white sauce that was delicious. They did not have spinach so the chef sent out grilled tomatoes. The cost was very reasonable. We would highly recommend!!Thank you!

Great buzzy atmosphere and very good food. However if youâre going for dinner go for the second sitting at 9pm otherwise you feel very rushed which takes away from the enjoyment Ciao Eileenm962, quando hai prenotato il locale era pieno e ti abbiamo proposto di venire alle 19.00 ma di lasciare il tavolo libero per chi aveva prenotato prima di te. Lorella

I previously reviewed this Salumeria back in June 2015 when it was rated as the No: 1 restaurant in Siena and could not understand how it achieved that rating given that it was really just a salumeria and small delicatessen that had a very small internal seating area although there were also a few tables outside. Some four years later it is still no: 1 and obviously has a very loyal following on TripAdvisor. Not much has changed since our first visit. The small building is still divided into two areas, the shop with its meat, cheese, salad and fresh food counter on one side and a selection of other foodstuffs and fresh fruit on the shelves opposite. The other area has a small internal dining room and kitchen with a small number of tables. Since the date of my first review we have spoken to the owners of the apartment where we stay in Siena and have found out that this is their "go to" place whenever they are seeking to buy cold meats for a special family occasion. We have also had the opportunity to sample more of this salumeria's products that are largely made in-house. On this most recent stay in Siena we visited this shop on five occasions to buy various cold meats and pre-made salad items.Without a doubt the in-house made prosciuttos, salamis and, especially the porchetta, are some of the best we have tasted. Some of the salads and quality of the vegetables was also very good. There is also a good range of cheeses to choose from.During our visits we have found the owner to be very hospitable and, rightly, very proud of what he produces and very keen for people to sample his products. His coffee is also very good.

Pizza was acceptable, salad as well but far too big! Service very slow, toilet you wouldn't go ever and finally we got the wrong check after asking 3 times. There are many other typical Pizzerias in this very nice city but definitely not the favorite!
