Reviews on Central European food in Tbilisi, Georgia. Tbilisi (English: /təbɪˈliːsi, təˈbɪlɪsi/ tə-bih-LEE-see, tə-BIL-ih-see; Georgian: თბილისი [tʰbilisi] ( listen)), in some countries also still named by its pre-1936 international designation Tiflis (/ˈtɪflɪs/ TIF-liss), is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of approximately 1.5 million people. Founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, since then Tbilisi served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Between 1801 and 1917, then part of the Russian Empire, Tbilisi was the seat of the Imperial Viceroy, governing both Southern and Northern Caucasus.

This was the first place we ate in Georgia where we had a smile from (one) waitress. The menu is basically Italian, and the food is good. The outdoor courtyard is shaded and a pleasant place to sit, eat and drink.Despite being close to busy streets, the place is quiet and relaxing.

Just 50 meters from the hotel's main building is the Iveria Café, where you can join us for breakfast or try one of our tasty sandwiches made with freshly baked bread. While you're here, grab an Italian coffee and a dessert as you watch the Mtkvari River
I have a severe sesame seed and sesame oil allergy so it's always a nightmare to travel to new countries and restaurants. I was celebrating and went for lunch--with my dog--The owner was fine with that , because my dog is well-behaved and she lay near the wall by the table, out of the way. Like with children, this is most important in a restaurant.I appreciated this greatly as we'd walked a long way! Once I was relaxed I could order what I really wanted to enjoy, from starter to dessert.

Chashnagiri - Delicious, georgian!
We were recommended this place by a local person. It is 5 minute walk from liberty square so convenient location. It is a friendly place with helpful staff. The menu is simple and full of local cuisine. We had four items, including the dumplings, which are enormous, with a couple of beers and was very happy with the final price. All the food was excellent and we would happily go back again.

Friends recommended Purpur. It is a very trendy restaurant in an area of Tblisi that is being renovated. By next year Purpur will be in the center of a new chic area. The food was very good. We had the khinkali and the khachapuri and some other items, The khachapuri was very, very good. We couldn't finish it. It was as heavy as it was tasty. The khinkali were terrific. I felt I was eating extra large soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung.
