Once you’re there, you’re walking or biking around this charming car-free village. But it’s well-worth the trek, especially if you’re a skier or snowboarder. There are 32 miles of trails plus lots of off-piste opportunities. The sledding is even better. Take a cable car to the summit of Schilthorn for epic alpine views.

Most of the restaurants in Wengen are hotel restaurants and, as non-guests, we like to look for restaurants that don't look too much like hotel restaurants, if you see what I mean. The Silberhorn restaurant is nicely set out, the service is good and the food is traditional fresh Swiss fare, which usually involves cheese and potatoes in various combinations. It also has an attractive roof terrace with views across the valley. We spent 3 weeks in France, Italy and Switzerland. Of those, our expectations for food were relatively low (although the views are the best) in Switzerland. However, we found Restaurant Caprice was very good and the view spectacular. It's not overly fancy by any means, but it's also not super heavy and overly sauced up either (which is a good thing). Frankly, between our experiences in Lucerne and the Jungfrau region - it was the best dinner we had. We would most definitely return.

Itâs well worth the walk from the Schilthorn cablecar station down into Stechelberg village, either along the river or loop around the quiet road. The village is drawn out over a wide area when we saw the signs for this restaurant we followed them further up into the village. The place looked shut this time of year but we opened the door and found a very warm welcome, along with an excellent choice of lovely huge cakes. The service was very friendly and we plan to go again. There is a pretty outside terrace as well.

We ran into this restaurant in the middle of hike down from Allmendhubel funicular. The terrace has million dollar views! Got to be one of the most beautiful places we have ever had lunch. It was sunny, could see Eiger, Munch, Jungfraujoch snow covered peaks, green pastures/hills. We were awed by the beautiful scenery. The food was very good too, prices were cheap in Swiss standard. It was the highlight of our Swiss trip, like to come back here to stay. But not sure we can hike with luggages here, we are not professional hikers.

Were here for lunch on a Friday. The food was traditional Swiss style... We had Bratwurst with Rösti, which were tasty. Also the mixed salad was fresh and nice. We sat on the terrace, which was ok, but nothing really special... The guy taking orders tried his best, but he had far too many tables and guests to take care of, meaning long waiting times, even to get the drinks...

Tonight we selected Restaurant Baren for our dinner and we were extremely pleased. The wait staff was super pleasant and answered all if questions.since we are both vegetarians they suggested a salad, a spatzel with vegetables and chestnuts and a mushroom sauce, and a special curry falafel dish which we loved. We shared all of our selections and added a glass of white Swiss wine for each of us. We thought that our meal, the ambiance and the staff was one the best that we had experienced in Switzerland and may return for a second go around tomorrow evening. This restaurant is a must do but in season you need to book. The food was really good and the service the most friendly we experienced in the valley. A couple of places charge for tap water even if you drink other drinks but this restaurant sensibly states if you order drinks tap water is free. Such a simple thing.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch on the terrace soaking in the Alpine view and crisp clean air. Our party ordered potato soup, mixed green salad and the Alpine Mac and cheese and were pleased with all. The waitress was especially helpful and friendly. The train was an easy off and back on. This is a great alternative to the crowds in neighboring villages.
