This place must be a joy to eat in other than a Wednesday, and more especially, a Saturday afternoon, when every man and his dog are trying to have something to eat before they go to see the feeding of the lynx (at 14.30). It is the only place for miles, and is immediately adjacent to the enclosure, so is absolutely heaving. The staff try their best to get around all the tables in and outside, and Iâd recommend that you do what we did: get a seat first (sharing is fine), know want to drink as soon as you sit down, whilst the waitress is getting that, look at the board and decide what you want to eat so you order it when she returns with the drinks, then everything goes well to plan.I had a large salad with tuna, and it was enormous! My husband had a mushroom schnitzel and it was also good. The wheat beer and wine hit the spot.We saw some people wait over 45 minutes, as other people have commented. I would only attempt to eat there in good weather, as the inside area is small. Oh, and the lynx are worth the walk up! (Commentary only in German)

We chose the restaurant predominantly due to the kindness and personality of the young Ukrainian waitress who took our booking. She also served us and was a delight through the evening. We chose the sharing Tapas for two. The dishes were excellent varied and good quality. A lively attractive place for the evening. ..

Restaurant has a certain ambience, well furnished and comfortable. Menu is a fine selection of local food, well prepared and presented. Service is smart and very professional. Attention to detail is obvious, with fine place settings and glassware.

Our first visit to this relatively new restaurant located 200 metres from the Town Hall square. Blessed with good weather, my wife and family (four adults) sat outside on chairs that were not so comfortable and with a table perhaps on the small size. Nevertheless, the freshly cooked food was outstanding - delicious, great value, and exceptional friendly service despite our lack of the German language. As with the title of the review, I was blown away by my meal - never had chicken coated in coconut breadcrumbs before and with a curry sauce, the combination was probably one of the tastiest meals I've had. Would highly recommend you give it a try.

This is one of the best German restaurants I have ever visited. Especially their soup Soljanka is amazing, but all we ate there was well prepared and delicious. We also appreciated very friendly and communicative staff. They made our evening in Wernigerode unforgettable.

We ate dinner here twice during our stay in Wernigerode. Excellent food and service on both occasions. Nice outside terrace on the main square and a smart hotel restaurant inside.

This attractive restaurant is bright and modern. I dined here on two evenings of my stay at the hotel, and enjoyed everything I ate. Unsurprisingly, it was not cheap. Fleets of staff ensure everything ticks along smoothly, and the maitre d' makes a point of visiting every table - a nice touch, I thought.

WOHNZIMMER RESTAURANT.
We were on holiday for 3 days in Wernigerode and we reserved a table through the internet on 29/01/2014. The restaurant looked OK, and that's it.The waiter gave us the menu card but we already reserved for the 7 course menu so we did not need to look into it. They offered a winesuggestion but when we asked what this was the waiter said white, rosé and red wine. We said that this was OK for us. Soon came the appetizers but we never got the opportunity to ask for an aperitif. This aperitif was offered for free in the touristbrochure which was clearly visible on the table but the waiter didn't move. The menu was some what strange, serving cold cucumbersoup in a hotplate when it is -10°C outside?? Trying to impress by making tasteless icecream with the help of "dry ice"?? And you really got just 1 glass of wine of each colour, no refill and no idea what kind of wine as they never showed the bottle. The most embarrising was in the end when I was told that this "classy" restaurant did not accept creditcards, only EC card. The international standard has changed meanwhile to Maestro but not in this restaurant. So I had to go out, leaving my wife alone to find a bank. And really find because again the waiter did not even made a small effort to show me the nearest ATM.Back in the restaurant I had to sit at the table in my coat for at least 5 minutes because the waiter was to busy talking to the other 2 guests. There was also a girl behind the bar but we had no idea what her job was, probably decoration. Really a disaster, and the cook remained safely in the kitchen all the time.

We dined outside at Landhaus - it has an incredibly charming village and water (pond) view and wonderful service. The lunch menu was varied and the food quality was excellent. Large portions, efficient service and charming wait-staff. The hotel looked gorgeous and the bar inside looked nice as we walked through to take a look on our way out. We had two elder people with us so access with walkers, etc. was important. It was a wonderful spot for lunch after site seeing around the area.

We went to the restaurant near the entrance to the Harz National Park in Ilsenburg on the recommendation of the Alt Ilsenburger Hof hotel owners (same owners of the restaurant, apparently). It was a gorgeous day, we sat outside and watched the hikers come out of the valley. The location is great (not really a panoramic view, but there's lots of interesting foot traffic), the service was very prompt and friendly, and the food portions were huge. Try the Hexenpfanne - panned pork loin with potatoes and green beans. It's served right in the iron pan and was tasty. Nothing spectacular taste-wise, but good food for an outdoor "hof". Follow that up with some "Witche's Jet Fuel" - a spicy (though not too spicy) schnapps from the region. Prices were very reasonable. A very pleasant experience after a long day of hiking.
