We were recommended this bar by the lady in the tourist information office, it was a wet Monday in Utrecht and most museums etc were closed. She gave excellent advice because we loved it. The cafe is in a converted church, dominated by a central bar, serving an amazing array of beer. The staff were very knowledgable and happy to make suggestions. We also tried the bitterballen to soak up the beer and they were excellent, freshly made and tasty. The chips were good too, the waiter forgot to order the chips for us and when reminded, they arrived promptly and on the house. Excellent service. We didn't have more substantial meals, but looking at the plates being delivered around us, they looked very appetising.I really liked it here and will definitely return. Lovely place.

I went to this restaurant because of the really good reviews here in tripadvisorThe food gets 3 1/2 stars. The meat was cooked well but all in all it didn't blow my mind. The antipasta plate is OK, but it lacked freshness and ideasThe atmosphere gets 3 stars. Tables are placed wherever is space in restaurant. In the front, at the bar and in the back. Like a lot of restaurants here the place is basically run and managed by students. The wine gets 2 stars. To pay 27euros for a nero s'avolo with a screwtop, which comes in retail for 6 or 7 euros is not worthy a decent italian restaurant. Also most other wines served comes in a screwtop. I have no issue when white wine comes like this, but for red, no please. Also the wine tasted like 6 Euros, without body, aroma and taste. You are better off ordering beer.

Kantien is a not so typical Dutch restaurant, which is situated in a former local government office. Local food, dutch craft beers, cocktails, brunch, bites, dinner a big terrace and meeting rooms.
Enjoyed a light 3 course Sunday lunch here on the large terrace of this unusual restaurant. An intriguing medley of various tomatoes done in different ways as a starter. Poached cod as a main course and frangipan tart with ice cream as a dessert. All very tasty, innovative and well presented. Good Sauvignon Blanc to go with it and plenty of free water. Very friendly and attentive waitress. And...free ample parking opposite. Where do you find that in Utrecht!

I stayed here for one night on a business trip and ate in the hotel restaurant.I had schnitzel with a cheese sauce. It was pretty good and a very big portion.... Accompanied by wedges, fries, cabbage and a side salad.nearly too much food! This cost Euro 17.50 which is very good value for a hotel. There were plenty of other choices at similar price and a more expensive steak menu. Service was efficient and friendly. This is not really a restaurant you would travel to due to the location of the hotel but if you are staying here you will get a very nice meal without having to travel anywhere.

An unpromising location (where it's easy to park) until you see the view behind the building. An unpromising entrance, giving way to a splendid wine cellar style dining room. A promising menu that should give you the confidence to order the "specialty" of the house: the surprise menu. Just tell them how many courses you want, sit back and relax. If you have dietary restrictions, it's even better: they actually listen and come up with surprisingly good variations or alternatives. Each dish is on the small side. Close your eyes, taste as well as you can, combine different parts of the dish. Unless you are a really big eater not only will you have had enough, you will have enjoyed your dessert as much as your first dish. Multiply that by generous portions of innovation and creativity. Unusual, but excellent combinations of ingredients make your meal as adventurous as a South Pole cruise. Set your prejudices aside and let the chef take you by the hand into a land you could not have dreamt up yourself. They passed my own simplistic test of attention to detail with flying colours: excellent bread and very good coffee. The negatives are really piddling. The acoustics are bizarre so the place can seem loud. If there is a wine chart I didn't see it and I sensed a strange aversion against French wines. These points are more than offset by an attentive, understanding and charming service. One day, Michelin will find them.

Joris is one of the very small handful of restaurants that is able to deliver on every note consistently every time. I've visited Joris now several times over the last few years and what impresses me most is the fact that I have never walked out the door disappointed. From the cozy but elegant atmosphere & design to the excellent quality of the food. Be it for a casual lunch or a dinner out, there is something on the menu for everyone. One thing I can certainly commend them for is their willingness to adapt - I have specific food restrictions and the kitchen has always been more than happy to accommodate my needs without question or complaint. The service is equally impeccable as the food, the waitresses are very friendly and warm, they regularly pass your table to see if you have further needs (instead of ignoring you like many other places) and are attentively active. And the food is delicious! From the fresh oysters, the steaks, the fish to the burgers, each bite is a pleasure. The food is fresh, quality, and cooked to perfection (you won't have a rubber burger or steak here!) Joris is the kind of restaurant which adapts to your different dining needs, be it a casual meal after shopping or a more fancy menu tasting. It is very difficult for me to find any faults, and this is one of their many great aspects - their ability to be consistent. This is also the reason why I will continue to regularly come back for the years to come.
