Full of locals which made it a wonderful atmosphere. Fantastic beer and good German food, it's great that they still brew their own beer. Great location for everything.

I was expecting to eat in my hotel in Aschaffenberg but the hotel restaurant was closed. The hotel booked me into Weinstube Kitz. It was wonderful. The starter of Parmesan soup was remarkably good; the main course of Zander was outstanding - sauce, black pudding and pear combined to make a wonderful plate. The dessert of chocolate mousse and caramel ice cream was equally good. And all this excellence for â¬40 including a large glass of wine and water. I would have been happy had I been asked to pay more. The restaurant is relaxed and informal but with excellent service. I cannot fault he experience.By the way if you are flying out of Frankfurt Airport and you do not want an airport or city centre hotel, Aschaffenberg is a great alternative. 30 mins on the ICE straight to the terminals. I will make sure I fly from Frankfurt in future just to come back to Weinstube Witz.

Every year we go to a nice restaurant with 2 other couples. About 10 years ago we were in the Altes Rentamt in Klingenberg (Ingo Hollands restaurant). The head chef, Ludger Helbig, now has his own restaurant and hotel in Johannesberg. The hotel and the restaurant are well worth a visit. The rooms were very romantic, with great views over Aschaffenburg towards Frankfurt. The food was great: kingfish, cod, oxtail ravioli, pigeon, soup, venison, and a dessert from 2 kinds of nougat, with a great sorbet.Wine selection is really good: we joked it was east (Franken) meets west (Rhône). Reasonably priced which is not always a given. So why "only" 4 stars:- really picky small details on service (one of the white wines was chilled enough; chef didn't come out and say hello; maitre d' didn't introduce herself - all minor points but contribute to a half point deduction)- the food, whilst great, was not that adventurous (with one possible exception - see below). Venison with seasonal veg, kingfish with sushi rice and algae: all good, but safe and secure selections. Another half point deducted for that. The one exception was the cod filet with oxtail ravioli - that was a real surprise and really great. Was left wondering how much effort must have gone into the ravioli just to give the cod a meaty and salty accompaniment. The atmosphere was relaxed (which by my definition means there were other tables laughing and enjoying themselves as much as we were - which is not always the case in other similar restaurants). The breakfast was great: cold cuts, coffee, eggs, wonderful breads and jams.Would I go back? For a once a year meal it is probably _just_ lacking the final touches, but otherwise I would definitely recommend it to anyone and look forward the next visit.

Came here with friends for lunch in a Saturday afternoon. We chose this restaurant because it was conveniently located near Schloss Johannisburg. The restaurant was packed when we arrived but we were lucky to find a table outside. I've learned that things just take a little bit longer in Germany. We waited about an hour for our food to come but the service was good and we were able to stay as long as we liked.I ordered the Wiener schnitzel with pommes frites which was just okay. Not the best I've had in Germany, but I was so hungry that it was satisfying! Dessert on the other hand is another story...BEST Apple strudel EVER!!!

Very close to the castle you will find this wonderful restaurant. There they will present you typical Franconia food beside that you will find offerings on the menu if you want something special with seasonal ingredients e.g. dishes with asparagus. We had a wonderful lunch outside in the courtyard. All food is well presented and very tasty. The service is very attentive and helpful. The restaurant has a rustic vaulted cellar. I can recommend this place.

Being literally on Main river, with excellent view and position, Pier 18 has all premises for a great experienced. Doubled by really good food, friendly staff and nice atmosphere, this restaurant is a great choice for an evening- regardless if business, romantic or food enjoying one

Was there on a business trip when visiting Automechanika 2012 in Frankfurt. The hotel is ran by a couple, they are very kind and really helpful, the atmo is family-like. Everything is tidy, and so on...come on this is Bavaria! :) Some locals are having dinner and some beers&schnaps there on a daily basis since this is the one of the very few "pubs" of the town. By the way, the restaurant is very good, I mean VERY GOOD! Furthermore they have their own Schnaps-distillery there!!! The negative side: some rooms' furniture look like a pioneer camp still the room prices are not that cheap.

Staying in the adjacent hotel for 1 night while travelling across Europe in August. Convenient distance in 1 day from Dunkerque. As hotel is somewhat rural and out of town, decided to try the restaurant as little else available without driving somewhere else. Decorated in a Bavarian wooden style, restaurant decor was nice enough. Upon arrival we were not greeted pleasantly, but were shown to a table. Staff speak no English (nor should anyone expect them to I hasten to add). Menus only available in German. Very limited selection of starters - basically choice of three, garlic prawns, grilled vegetables or melon. We chose not to partake.Mains - meat, meat and more meat. No vegetarian options I could see, 1 chicken dish, 1 turkey dish and 2 fish dishes. The remainder of the menu was beef and pork. We chose lemon chicken - chicken pieces on a bed of peppers and aubergines, with lemon sauce. This dish was liked by my son. My wife ordered a rump steak, which was huge. She had asked for it cooked medium, but in the centre it was still "blue". She was still full with what she ate however, due to the portion ize, the pieces she left were perfect for me. I chose pork medallions on a bed of rosti potato. The medallions were actually pork fillet pieces, served with tomato slices and mozarella on top. The cheese was overpowering, as was the thick jus sauce which was too cloying. The wine selection was somewhat strange, only glasses are listed on the menu no bottles. When asking for a bottle, the waitress seemed surprised, but then pointed to the glasses listed on the menu. Not sure whether she meant we could only have wine by the glass or whether we could have a bottle of those listed, my wife and I both selected a Franken Rosé. When the waitress returned she had a Litre bottle which she then gave us. Somewhat anxious about the price we would be charged when no bottle prices were listed, we awaited the bill but were pleasantly surprised that the bottle was cheaper than we have regularly paid in British restaurants. Not a great restaurant, but acceptable

Friends and I were driving from Nuremburg to Bonn and decided to pull off the A3 to have lunch. We happened upon Zum Wilddieb and we really loved it. We shared a salad and I had the veal wienerschnitzel which was outstanding. Our waitress could not have been nicer and more attentive. I highly recommend this place!
