Auf dem Weg zum Elisabethsee kurze Einkehr um en Durst zu löschen und ein Eis zu kaufen. Weiter geht es zum abkühlen an den See.

We recently had a family reunion in Windischgarsten. Our maternal aunt treated all 33 of us to a lunch at the Waldhof Restaurant. The food and service were excellent and the little garden (yard) out front was a perfect retreat after the meal. We had Schnitzel, Jause Platter and Gulasch Soup. Everything about this restaurant, from the locals to the food is authentic Austrian. It is a great place.

This is an affordable self-service restaurant about 30 m from the lake bank with wonderful views. Beside comfortable in-house seating, the restaurant has a large sunny terrace partly under shade of chestnut trees overlooking the lake which is very popular among visitors. The car park is just about 50m away from the restaurant. It is a typical Austrian Restaurant with at least 4-5 choices for vegetarians. All dishes are house made and most of them are organic (bio). There is a wide selection of coffee and home-made pastries.During peak time, there may be long queue , but the service is fast. Portions are good and prices are reasonable (mid range). This is an ideal place for families with lot of activities for children as well as adults. You can plan to spend whole day. The restaurant is well maintained and hygienic.

The newly reconstructed wooden mountain hut has great views, great food, desserts and beer. Staff was wery friendly and helpful. We slept there before continuing to Warscheneck and Zellerhutte. If you want a room for overnight stay, you should definitely make a reservation.

Came in for a quick dinner and had the veal schnitzel with parsley potatoes and a side salad. The meat was perfectly fried and the breading was crispy with a subtle taste of nutty butter. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and sprinkled with fresh parsley. The salad was undoubtedly fresh out of the garden - crisp and tasty. The only possible improvement would be a little of the nutty butter to accompany the potatoes. As we were the only guests in the restaurant we got an excellent service.

We found this place listed in Google and were staying nearby at a farm so we decided to try it. We ended up eating here 4 times in 3 days! It is a very nice restaurant with an amazing view of the mountains. You can eat either indoors or outdoors - all with a view. Every dish was hand-crafted including the soup and desserts. They even had a nice kids menu with real food on it (rather than chips and only fried food). They also have a very nice playground in the back to keep the kiddies entertained!Often you find local restaurants to be "average" and salty but this was definitely not the case. The prices are very reasonable. The only drawback is you can't be in a hurry, esp on a holiday! It can take a very long time even for the starter course. But at least you know everything is being made fresh and with tlc.
