Reviews on Central European food in Gyor, Central Transdanubia, Hungary. Győr (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈɟøːr] ( listen); German: Raab, Slovak: Ráb, names in other languages) is the most important city of northwest Hungary, the capital of Győr-Moson-Sopron County and Western Transdanubia region, and—halfway between Budapest and Vienna—situated on one of the important roads of Central Europe. The city is the sixth-largest in Hungary, and one of the seven main regional centres of the country.

You wonât find a more traditional Hungarian Tavern (csarda). This establishment has been around forever (400 years). My father, who grew up in Györ, remembers coming here as a child and I remember my father bringing us here when we came to visit. I come back every year and nothing has changed. It is still the best restaurant in Györ, if not Hungary. Definitely my favourite restaurant in the world. All food is great here but my suggestion is just go straight for the Halászlé (Fish Soup). You really wonât be disappointed.

We went there for a Saturday lunch. The pub is in the city center, easy to find if you are sightseeing Györ. It looks very nice and it wasn't crowded at all, we got the table without reservation, no problem about that. The menu is very interesting, a lot of choices. We took a steak and a fish dish and they both were great. Very tasty and nicely presented on the plates. Excellent beer also, an English ale, something that I haven't tried before. Acceptable prices. The place I definitely recommend.

We had two different experiences here. The first one was an afternoon with a craving for ice cream on a very hot day. We had five different constructions in lovely decorated glassed, each one more overwhealming than the other. Mine was a dream of wild berries, fruit ice cream and whipped cream, which took me about 20 minutes to eat. Heavenly! The next day we went here for dinner with our whole group of 34, and were served with gulasch soup - very good, but hefty, and then two large schnitzels each with potatoes and carrots. Sad to say that I had to leave more than half of the main course, it was just too much, even though it was good.Same thing with the puddings, two large pancakes filled with jam and nuts and drizzled with chocolate. Also good, but one would have been enough. This is avery popular place, especially the terrace is busy in the summer, but service is efficient and prices very reasonable, compared to Western Europe. Recommended, but make sure you are really hungry.

The location of this restaurant is just great, right at the river. The service is wonderful as well as the cuisine. Whatever we had ordered for lunch, it was great, fresh and a heavenly taste - everytime. Very home made kitchen. We like to go back again and again.

We chose La Mareda based on the reviews and pictures. We were very happy with our choice to dine here. They have a nice terrace to enjoy lunch, service was attentive and prompt.Menus are multi-lingual and full of Hungarian specialties.Recommend the Fois gras starter - comes accompanied with berries and fruit. We tried the Cordon Blue, Salmon and Pork wrapped in pancetta. - The cordon Blue was excellent and comes with an overdose of mashed potatoes.- The best part of the salmon was side dish of vegetables in curry-like sauce- the Pork wrapper in pancetta was cooked perfectly. The side disk of pasta noodles were freshFor dessert we tried the berry soup and chocolate moelleux. The chocolate moelleux was âhome-madeâ and outstanding. Not the store-bought lava cake variety that some restaurants serve. Highly recommend this restaurant as part of our plans to enjoy visiting Gyor.

As we went around, the outside looked quite average but inside, there was live music and fancy looking restaurant. The service was quick and the meals really tasty. A good thing here was an option for almost all meals to order small portions.

In cautious of having deer with a sweet sauce as u know it can be overpowering, but its the BEST i ever had!!!!
