After completing a 3 week trip to Europe, I concluded my trip by flying to Basel to meet some great friends for dinner. They selected this restaurant because they knew I would appreciate the experience. And they were so right! Every aspect of this meal was spectacular from cocktail service & appetizers to the meal and dessert. This is now among my favorite restaurants in the world. On future visits to Basel I shall not miss the opportunity to dine here.Prices are very high - about $250 per person. But the experience was well worth the price. I didnât mind because they delivered one of my most favorite and memorable meals - ever!

Located in a small non-descript town, from outside the restaurant does not impress, but inside there is a nice modern design, elegant but still casual. Very good design.Nice garden seating area. The food is really excellent. I had as a starter the scallops- wow, not only it looked great but it was extremely tasty. As main dish I had the veal which was excellent as well, the dessert strawberry with ice cream was very good as well, but the best dessert was the sorrel sorbet which was absolutely top! Overall the food is really excellent and is at least at one star Michelin level.Ver good wine list, of course with lots of German wines from the region.Service was casual but friendly. What would have made the experience even better: no one asked at the end of the lunch if we were happy - a gesture that could make a difference.Price level for food is good for the quality you get. Only the wines are a bit overpriced for Germany. Concussion: great experience, I can highly recommend this restaurant for food lovers who love a casual but nice environment.

I wanted to post this update to give this interesting place it's fair due. Last time we had large business group for dinner and it didn't go so well. The space itself is worth mentioning: beautiful antic tiled stove, modern mural on medieval theme, chandelier...This time it was a dinner for 2 and it was a very positive experience. Our dishes were perfectly executed and seasoned. Service was a bit of an issue at first as the lady did not speak/understood English well. That said once we got through the order taking it was good and attentive. Chef stopped by and checked on us. They offered 2 amuse bouches. Lobster and scallops were amazing however what it was served with I didnât like (tapioca, seaweed and fruit preserve). It was not complementary. My colleagueâs fish was divine.

Our philosophy: fresh, local, surprising. Allow yourself to be inspired by our culinary offerings and feel the pride and joy in our fresh market variety that chef Hubert Mayer and his team bring to the table.
Sitting outside on a summer evening on the restaurant terrace overlooking the river is always a pleasure but on this latest visit we were disappointed with the food. The starter salad was very ordinary and the expensive option fish dish was rubbery and quite cold by the time it reached our table. In fairness, we were offered a complementary dessert. Apparently the chef has changed and based on our latest experience I am not sure we would go back.Dear "sophie83"Thank you for your honest feedback regarding your last visit on our terrace. We do apologise we could not meet your expectations this time and as you surely know from previous visits, this is not the quality of service and food we aim for. We will review this situation with our teams and take actions to prevent such in the future. Be ensured that our head chef Pierre Wary, who was our Sous-Chef before becoming our head chef, is an expert and kreative chef, too. We would be pleased to welcoming you again to Krafft to prove, that we are still the restaurant you know and appreciate.Kind Regards,Cindy

Nestling amid the historical and cultural riches of the St. Alban Quarter in the heart of Basel is a restaurant that's renowned for its superb, seasonally based French cuisine and deliciously popular Basel specialities: the St. Alban-Stübli. Its relaxed,
Absolutely fabulous place for value and for nice delicious food.Had a conference in Basel and invited for a dinner at this place. The restaurant is located in a residential area and is a Swiss Cottage style with indoor capacity of 30seaters and outdoor seating of about 20 sites at the side of the 2 storey cottage. We sat at the outdoor dining. We were exhausted and had a Swiss beer when we arrived. The food was delicious..I had a white asparagus with ham by the side. The ham was lovely smoked and fresh. The white asparagus was so crunchy yet it was softly cooked with side dip of Hollandaise sauce with cheese. The dip was beautifully prepared with flowing taste of hollandaise and cheese overflowing the asparagus. Absolutely heavenly. For the main course I chose the Cordon bleu - pork wrapped in ham, bacon and beautifully seasoned and fried with bread crumbs, served with boiled asparagus and cauliflower. The dish was very tasty, not dry and sumptuous. It was surprisingly soft for the pork and fried very crispy and well on the outside. The dish was accompanied by stick fries. I would have felt it better if a sauce was also offered. For dessert, I chose the house special creme brûlée. This was served literally in âflamesâand accompanied by a scoop of vanilla iced cream. The creme brûlée was nicely textured and had a deep long taste of soft custard. From my colleagues, it was overall a very very good meal with Swiss flavour.Hope to be back if I can find my way..

We went to this trendy restaurant..because we follow the comments...even if the restaurant is not in the center. It offers all for a talented..and this cook definitely is, to be THE place for all the rather also trendy ,young with a bit of money people. - You cross the street and enter passing all the costy bikes and the beautiful garden..and enter in a dark restaurant where you are seated hopefully next to another group of successful people enjoying loudly. We were lucky to be so far away but this had the opposite effect that they forget you. Waitresses are nice..very informal..they talk to the people they seem to know...but they are SLOW..inefficient and to WAIT (it is an expensive place) for bread..20 minutes..for the dish (excellent fish BUT NOTHING WITH IT)..another 20 minutes..and another 20 for the smallest dessert we have ever eaten! My partner got a stiff neck from turning to the waiter to get the bill. But we could see that the locals...liked it..and they seem to have all eaten before because we left hungry but the bill was as quite expensive for what you get.To summ up:This owner responds to a specific client who would not go a normal restaurant...The plates are hand made...the fish comes from a happy fish and so does the meat come from a happy animal. the wine comes from hand picked owners..and you feel so good!but if you search for a place after a hard day and want to EAT and feel welcome..you might be disappointed.

The bar with salami and cheese specialties and over 100 wines can be found in the heart of the old town of Kleinbasel on Rheingasse. The extensive offerings and lively atmosphere make the Consum an uncomplicated meeting point. Whether it's the fresh lunch
"The bar with salami and cheese specialties and over 100 wines."So Consum advertises for itself. And it does what it promises!A parallel alley behind the Rhine promenade is the bar Consum in Kleinbasel. It is a small bar, decorated with lots of wood and great decor on a beautiful old slab floor. In a cozy atmosphere, it is the ideal place to rest from shopping, from strolling along the Rhine, or to make the evening after work.Everything is very clean! There are fine antipasti, cheese and / or great meat (cut from the big Berkel slicer). You should definitely try the very fine pear or fig mustard, buy a glass and take home with you. To accompany the meat and cheese platters, the Consum offers beautiful red and white wines to choose. The wines are the finest and the staff knows what it is talking about. The team serves and gives excellent advice; Thanks a lot to Leonie, Jacqueline, Max and Patrick. It's worth a visit! We are looking forward to the next timeDear Mr. "robertkeusen99"We are pleased to read you enjoyed your visit at our wine bar.We cannot thank you enough for your review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, the wines, food and the excellent advice of our team at our bar.We look forward to seeing you soon again at Consum!Best regardsLeon Wolter

I live in New York City and letâs just start by saying Iâm a food snob. I hate playing high prices for a poor meal. I had such hopes for Ufer7. It got great reviews on this site. Ufer7 sits right on the Rhine River in Basel. We arrived at 7:30 pm on a Friday night. The terrace was hopping. The inside of the space is stucco with wood tables and bare decorative bulbs. I little jarring for my taste. The menu lists multiple small items to share on a platter. We choose two to start with. Falafel and a mushroom soup option. The menu was in Swiss German so it was a little tricky. The top of the menu says food should be pleasing to the eye then the tongue. The food looked great but it all tasted like sandpaper. The falafel was dry and tasteless and I could not discern a mushroom taste in the soup. We shared a fresh fish plate which was composed of shrimp with the heads on, red rice, bok choy and salmon. All very boring. The meal was followed by two slices of carrot cake that I could swear came out of the freeze. You know that sort of wet dense freezer burn taste. Either way I took one bite and decided it was not worth the calories! What were the good points? The staff, they were lovely and helpful. I was a little surprised when the bill came to 142 Franks for 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers a dessert and a tea. Not way out for Swiss restaurants but when I gave the waitress 150 F she just walked away with the change. As an American I would have tipped but assuming you should just take a tip is a little off putting. Iâm hoping the chef was sick that night and they will be on their game in the future otherwise definitely not worth it except for drinks on the terrace.
