I regard this as the best beer hall and eatery in Hamelin. The Krug has real character and the ambience is wonderful. The service is friendly and efficient and they serve a wide variety of traditional dishes. The rat theme fits perfectly with the whole town's theme and no matter what the weather outside, you will have a good time. I met some delightful locals and despite a language barrier managed to have a great time.A must visit.

My friends invited my to the restaurant that is near the place they leave. The nearest city Hannover is about 30 km from their village, but to my surprise we turned to other direction. The Gasthaus Muller looks like any other 'kneipe' near the roads in Germany and I probably wouldn't stop there for more than a cup of coffee. But - on the door Michelin recommendation, nice interior (but typically German) and the menu that makes you hungry. Everything sounds good, wine list includes really nice proposals - I especially appreciated very good German ones. Since it was so difficult to decide I took Probiermenu. Fried camembert was good, the baby chicken very good and the dessert excellent. I hope to come back and try other dishes.

I visited the Monopol on a recent business trip with a large group for dinner. I found the location very scenic with a outdoor dining balcony on those good weather evenings. The contemporary decor was very nice as well. Although enjoyable, I did find the food a little disappointing. My salad, unlike the guest next to me, was mostly onions and the portion of my entree was much smaller then an adjacent guest. Quality control seemed lacking. The food was adequate, but nothing particularly special in terms of flavor. I did notice some outstanding looking desserts, although I did not try any.As an option in Hameln, I would go back, but only because the choices in this quaint little village are limited.

So I lived in Hameln for 3 years and never knew this place existed. I visited for the first time today with family and friends and I was truly surprised. Great selection of pancakes, never knew you could have pancakes with so many different options. The environment is really relaxing and romantic. This is the type of place I can imagine relaxing with a bottle of wine and trying a pancake with a different filings.Worth a visit if you happen to be in Hameln.

This restaurant is set amid lovely woodlands on a hilltop just outside Hameln. The building is old and attractive but the cakes we had were only ok, rather than great. We sat outside under big umbrellas in glorious sunshine and neither the coffee nor the cakes matched the setting.

The Family History It seems that the Kretschmer family have service to other in their blood, for they have now been serving both the German civil, and the British military communities for three generations! The post war years were difficult for everyone,
We were a group of 7 on a business trip to Hanover motor show and stayed in Hameln. Had not planned evening meal and chose Zum Schultheiss based on previous reviews. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and the accompaniments were typical German hearty fare. All very tasty! Staff even brought out starters on the house. Overall excellent!Zum Schultheiss has a nice beer garden surrounded by high hedges to keep it quite secluded, which seemed to have a good atmosphere going, but we stayed inside for comfort. The restaurant is located approx. 15 min walk from the pedestrianised centre of Hameln.

Surrounded by trees this little restaurant serves delicious local food at reasonable prices.Service is good, although high demand at peak points might make it slow, but not quite to hurt my evaluation by a one point demotion. I had a chicken soup that was just perfect for a chilly night, followed by a house salad that was amazing, and a schnitzel that has to be one of the best I have ever had. Beers were outstanding and no room for desert. The place seems to be loved by locals, and it was packed on a Tuesday night with people from all ages, including families. Lunch seems to work quite well too. I would go back anytime, shame it is thousands of miles from home...

A very welcoming atmosphere with helpful bilingual staff and happily surprised by the variety and presentation of the excellent food. Highly recommended.
