I was in Dortmund for business and was commenting that I could not find any German restaurants. The place I was visiting took us to this restaurant, which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. You access the place by going down a narrow tree lined road as it is situated in a forest. I am not fluent in German, but I gathered that they served game from the surrounding woods and had a lake on the premises and footpaths. The food was excellent as well as the service. Truly homemade food that was traditional German cuisine. I loved my veal and my associated had salmon that was well prepared. There was a beef soup for an appetizer that was just spicy enough to be tantalizing to the palate. I hope to go back again to try other items on the menu. Note that Thursday is game night and they had deer and boar as I recall. There were others, but I do not recall what they were. Local beer and just fresh, wholesome, hoe-cooked food- what better can you get? Their website is www.jaghaus-im-kuehl.de if you need more information. They have outside seating in the summer time and the décor is kind of alpine hunting lodge if I had to guess. The nice touch was the real fireplace that made the room nice and warm and cozy.

Thuns has become a must every time I return to this area for family visits. Many years ago it was turned from a simple village pub into a really nice dining experience.Choice for good food is somewhat limited in this area, so it fills a definite niche if you are looking for something special. The outside has not changed much and it still looks like a German pub. Inside itâs a different story though. Welcome is professional but informal. The small dining room is tastefully decorated if a little open. The Menu is an interesting mix of traditional fare from the area and international cuisine with a French flair. I settled for the surprise menu which the chef puts together after a short and fun interview. Local venison with mushrooms and cabbage. Very nicely done, full of flavor and arranged beautifully. The wine selection is quite broad with a lots of German and European choice. Expert help is at hand on staff. After dinner they have a very good selection of Grappa in particular. It is not a cheap experience if compared to other restaurants in the area, with menus of ⬠40 or more. Comparing it to restaurants in other areas of Germany of the same class though it is a bargain. All in all a fantastic experience. Very friendly and professional service, great food beautifully presented and a good selection of wine.Dear Africa _Travels,we thank you for your kind review and do appreciate. With the best regards to Lagos and hope to see you soon in Werdohl again.Martin Thun, Restaurant Thuns.

Dresel is a FIND. It is located in the middle of Rummenohl, a very small little village in a scenic part of Sauerland. It used to be a sleepy hotel with a nice restaurant. It had a fire and is now truly a gem as many millions of dollars have obviously been spent on updating and refurbishing the place. We stayed in room 16 which was equipped with an absolutely incredible bathroom, complete with a soaking tub for two, a rain shower, and an assortment of bath salts and towels allowing one to make maximum use of the place. While the bed was comfortable, it is obvious most of the money has been spent on updating bathrooms, curtains, etc. But the story does not end there. There is a truly wonderful bar in the basement, completely redone and sophisticated and charming enough that you could be in the best bar in Berlin or Frankfurt. Big easy chairs combine with a nice vibe and good drinks, complete with a nice single malt selection not seen too many places in Germany. There is a huge outdoor area where you can eat and drink in the warmer months, and breakfast which is complementary is served in a light filled room where the sunshine shines through driving away winter outside. Breakfast was prepared to order along with a great selection of rolls, yogurts, fruit, etc.Service at the front dest was efficient and enough english spoken. Cost was a very fair 119 euro. This is a wonderful place to spend a night or several nights. The room is equipped with a nice notebook describing fully the area and several nice hikes or walks should you be so inclined. The restaurant is first class and amazing for this little village. Service is a bit retarded and in need of training, but food is outstanding and equal to the best of Duesseldorf or Cologne standards.ZB

Stayed here for just one night, but found the room to be very cosy and clean. The guest house is very old (1628 I think the manager said) and has a few period features. The bar is very welcoming, good beer. Staff are great. Breakfast is excellent-proper German stuff with breads, meats, cheese and freshly boiled eggs laid out on your table, rather than the usual buffet. Very reasonable price for a guesthouse right in the centre of the old town. Only downside is that it's very hard to get to with a car-no map on the website, I got within a couple of hundred metres and parked in the public car park and walked the rest of the way.

This restaurant has been remodeled since my last visit several years ago and it looks very nice with hardwood floors and sound deadening panels in the ceiling. This is Spargle season so everything comes with white asparagus, which is excellent. I had the Pike-Perch which wasn't perch at all but it tasted good. Probably just lost in translation. I also had the special mustard soup which was zuper!I bet in the summer when you can eat outside this place is really nice. You will be happy here.
