After a full day at Montserra we were tired, hungry and thirsty. Late in the day a friend recommended this restaurant and we hurried to get there. Family run they were very gracious from the reception on. Across the board the food was Imaginative and classic. The highlight of the day was a desert that was a foam of truffle mousse with fruit. Perhaps the most delicious and perplexing dish I have ever had. Everything was very nice with the exception of the wine that went with the prix fixed menu. It was a cheap Rioja not deserving of their table. Will go back again

We had lunch and dinner here, while staying at the hotel (which deserve 5 stars review...). All food we taste was really nice: starters, fish and meat. Long menu to choose and it seems they master all of it.Moreover it is placed on such a quiet place near the river, with quiet terrace and garden. The price is not cheap, although the quality worths it.We will repeat, no doubt.

We actually live only about 40 minutes' drive from Maçanet de Cabrenys, a tiny Pyrenean village just over the border from our French village into Spain. Maçanet is a lovely, lively village, with a great old-fashioned Spanish-style café and a beautiful medieval church. Surrounding scenery is gorgeous. La Quadra is a hotel-restaurant in the heart of the village, which, despite its remoteness and its small size, boasts at least a half-dozen eating places. Yesterday was a gorgeous early fall day, so we made a special trip to Maçanet to try La Quadra out. And we're happy we did! You have the choice of a prix fixe menu at about â¬21, with plenty of choice for each course. Or you can have the so-called tasting menu for â¬27, where, after a little amuse-bouche, there are fixed starters of cod carpaccio followed by seafood cannelloni. From there, one passes to a main course to be chosen among maigret de canard, roast lamb shoulder, grilled sirloin, and a hake casserole with prawns, squid, calamari, and mussels. We both chose the last. And finally, there is a big choice of desserts, including pears baked in coffee, which we chose, along with a plate featuring small portions of four of the restaurant's classic desserts. Service was excellent, rapid, attentive, but not obsequious or too fast. The restaurant filled up, surprising at a Tuesday lunch, but evidence of the restaurant's reputation, given that it is not on anyone's way to anywhere. In retrospect, I wish we had taken the daily menu at â¬21. I found the fish cannelloni and the seafood "casserole" to be too similar, all in a predicable if good tomato-based sauce. This is a very fine village restaurant but not a spectacular restaurant, based on our meal choices. Next time -- and there will be a next time very soon -- I want to pick and choose among the starter and main course offerings, to give myself more variety and the restaurant more opportunity to excel. Some of the offerings made my mouth water: casserole of escargots; courgettes stuffed with Roquefort in a mushroom sauce; stewed cuttlefish with meat balls; baked veal cheek with mushrooms; and several others. House wine was drinkable, setting pleasant, table linens perhaps too informal. Opening hours adjusted for the French clientele over the border, with lunch beginning as early as 1230, with the Spaniards and Catalans arriving after 130. Dinner begins at 730pm. A very very good experience overall, to be repeated.Thank you very much for taking some of your time and sharing your opinion. We appreciate very much your positive comments. We all look forward to welcoming you back to Maçanet and to our Restaurant La Quadra in the near future. Joan and joana

Le Laetitia is ggod eatery on the side of the road, just before Le Perthus and the Spanish Border. It has elements of Spain and France on the menu. We used to eat there regularly until a couple of years ago, and we revisited there last week to see if there had been any changes. Not much has changed, slightly larger terrace, and a general spruce up - and the staff seem to be the same, and we were warmly welcomed. It is a good value place in a good location and has good service. This time my wife had a lobster salad, oddly it had 3 claws, so it was actually 1.5 smallish lobsters, which I am sure would be thrown back if caught on a british boat. I had a filet steak, which was good and worth the extra over an entrecote. )See my other reviews when it comes to entrecote and France!)Worth stopping at and you will have good food at a reasonable price, and if outside eating isn't your thing, there is an air conditioned rear dining room, plus a large inside dining room.

The restaurant El Trull d'en Francesc prides itself on being located in a truly enviable setting, in the centre of the Alt Emporda, in a village of 125 inhabitants. Its surroundings are wonderful for strolling, cycling or just admiring their beauty. We ha
We have gone there many many many times for a very simple reason: excellent food and fantastic service. There are different menus each season of the year. And they include the products of the region and of these seasons.Very worth to try the courses with mushrooms and game meat.To come back for sure.

A surprising find where we enjoyed well cooked and tasty food at reasonable prices â the staff were most helpful, particularly as we needed to find somewhere that we could eat, being with our dog; even he was well supplied with water.

A short walk from Cantallops - very quiet when we visited. Food was good and varied - husband's steak was a bit too smothered in sauce though. If staying in Cantallops this restaurant is worth a visit- the owner is very hospitable and friendly. Digestif on the house at end of meal.

We visited the bar/tapas half of this establishment after a pleasant shopping expedition, and unfortunately it put rather a bad spin on our evening. Initially, the food was pleasant and plentiful, with decent portions and a particularly tasty gazpacho. Unfortunately when the bill came, they had overcharged us a little. I queried it but as the bill was vague I had to ask the barman to go through it item by item. It turned out they had simply added a euro to a couple of items and charged us twice for another. When I pointed this out and put the correct money down for what we had consumed, the barman inexplicably flew into an almighty rage, shouting at me and stealing my female companion's iphone and credit cards (which she had casually placed upon the bar) whilst demanding we paid the extra. He intimated he might call the police, at which point I wholeheartedly agreed and set about doing so myself. It was then that he took the stolen iphone to the door and threatened to fling it far and wide. Bear in mind this was over a couple of euros... As it became clear I was in fact seeking professional assistance he fairly swiftly relented and returned the stolen goods. We left, but my friend was extremely shaken and frightened by the whole affair. I really would not recommend going to this bar/restaurant. There are a few nice local places I've been to just up and down the street where they don't overcharge you or shout at you. Give this place a huge miss and have a pleasant evening.

We've been going here on a reasonably regular basis for some years now. When we first started going it was one of the most consistent restaurants and an oasis among the cheap and cheerful places that litter La Jonquera. Unfortunately, on recent visits we've noted that, whilst still pretty good by LJ standards, the quality of food, service and overall satisfaction has definitely started to slip. The latest visit was a case in point. Despite them only having a grand total of 16 covers that evening, we had to wait 20 minutes to place our order, then a further 40 for the starters to be served, despite the fact that one of them was a salad, and the other smoked salmon. The wait was not quite as bad for the main, but it had clearly been left lying around, as my wife's cod was stone cold by the time it arrived. Service was both rather mechanical, and totally unfriendly and unsmiling....something we've noticed a few times at Els Fogons recently. It was as if the waiting staff were doing the bare minimum, and doing us a favour by serving us. There is nothing inherently wrong with the food here, but if that was representative of a fairly quiet November evening, I shudder to think what it's like at busy times these days. So my advice would be that they should smarten up their act a few notches, and, for goodness sake try to make their customers feel welcome and valued, as opposed to a burden.!

With the many excellent reviews this restaurant has received we expected a lot. We arrived latish for lunch (2.30). Our menu de jour (14.50E) was good, but certainly not outstanding. We had a choice of just 3 desserts - perhaps they'd run out of options. Service was pretty average.
