first visit to a place I have wanted to go for quite awhile. we ordered 2 cubano sandwiches, plus rice/beans. very big sandwich, quite good. surprised that there was quite a bit of seating, all outside (I believe). on street, bar stools at counter. very colorful place, music could have been a bit more Latin for my taste, and very nice waitress. not a comfy upscale place, but outstanding food.

First time solo dining here. Ordered the tamale and chicken breast. Wow, a lot of food. The tamale is giant loaded with pork, masa & onions. A meal in itself. The grilled chicken breast with sautéed onions was good, but the tamale was great. Add the plantains, rice & black beans were all good. Too much food, so the to go made it 3 meals. Service was pleasant as he went out of his way to allow me to try another dish. Everything was good, oh did I mention the tamale was great. Prices on par. Would definitely return.

We stopped for lunch and left happy. Service was good and quick. I chose the chicken with rice and soup dish. The chicken was moist and well seasoned. The rice was nice and the soup included some sausage. The portions were huge and I couldn't finish it all. With gratuity all less than $10.

Step into Cubano's by Mario Restaurant and you instantly feel the hustle of the city fade. Soothing colors, soft lighting, crisp linens and fragrant aromas all conspire to transport you to a more tranquil setting.
Most of the good Cuban restaurants in this area have closed. We tried Mario's for the first time the other night and were flabbergasted with the ambience, service and excellent quality of authentic Cuban dishes. WOW!!! After being seated at a linen covered table with nice stemware, cloth napkins and a real lighted candle, we began to peruse the menu. The selections are traditional and what seemed to be pricey for Cuban food. There's a full bar with well concocted drinks, also a bit pricey. A plate of fried plantains served with a delicious dipping sauce was presented while we awaited our cocktails. Mario, the owner, is very visible and greets everyone like they were old friends. After listening to a long list of specials for the day, I chose the roast pork lechon asado and my dining mate the chicken & shrimp. When delivered in a timely fashion, the portions were of a substantial size and well presented. The proof of quality and preparation are in the tasting however, and both were outstanding.... probably why the price seemed out of line but justifiably so. All entrees come with rice, black beans and plantains. A dessert tray with a very large selection was presented after the meal and we chose to enjoy a Cuban coffee with our choices. The coffee however could have been better. Will we be back? You betcha!!!
