Proudly serving The Best Fish and Chips in Grey / Bruce / Simcoe Counties. Crispy, Light Batter and Hand Cut Fries: Add a Little Salt and Malt and Your All Set! Sail Restaurant and Catering Co. - "You've Just Gotta Try It!"
Meaford is a small town on the southern shore of Georgian Bay. It's west of Thornbury and Collingwood, Ontario, and, between the downtown, its theatre and waterfront, it has a charm of its own. Part of that charm is the âSailâ restaurant at 108 North Sykes Street, which is at the west end of the downtown area.Sail used to be a popular fish-and-chips restaurant called Captain's Corner. We used to go there. Then the Captain's Corner name disappeared at that corner location and Sail started its voyage of serving people fish-and-chips and other menu items.Sail continues as a cosy place, with tables and chairs on one level, just inside a very large picture window at the front of the restaurant. There's a wood stove in the dining area and the kitchen area is tucked away, pretty much out of sight, behind the reception counter area.Four of us were going to see a Zac Brown tribute band called Chicken Fried at the beautiful Meaford hall, a refurbished theatre. We enjoyed Chicken Fried, but before that show we enjoyed our meals at Sail.I had called a week ahead of time to make a reservation for us. The fellow who answered the phone, named Ryan, assured me that I wouldn't need a reservation. When we entered Sail, I immediately asked for Ryan and confirmed that I had called. The reservation was not necessary, but the dining area did start to fill as we were eating our meals.A cheerful server, Denise, (Hey! It's a small town!) looked after our drinks and then our orders. She buzzed back to check on how we liked our dinners. We assured her that all was fine, including the wine one member of our group ordered.I had the Alaska whitefish, two pieces, with sweet potato fries. That was on special for $15.99. Others in our group enjoyed the same thing, or haddock with fries. We were all pleased with our dinners and the service. While there, we discovered that Ryan Follis, the owner, has at least four food-related ventures under his culinary apron. Sail restaurant is one enterprise. Sail restaurant and food truck is another. Just Like Home Cafe is an enterprise in nearby Owen Sound and Intimate Fare Catering âfor the love of foodâ in Grey and Bruce counties is a fourth venture.Ryan wasn't shy in promoting his upcoming culinary Intimate Fare dinner series. He gave us sheets of paper on which are the details of upcoming special dinners, special five-course dinners on Thursday evenings through February 2019. Best to check with Sail for details, but I can assure you from looking at the Intimate Fare menus that these dinners (at $130.00 each event, per couple, plus applicable taxes) will be special. Special enough, I think, to consider the February 14th event as a Valentine's outing.Don't let the old-building-on-the-corner look fool you when it comes to Sail. It's clear that Sail restaurant is upping the level of culinary arts in Meaford and area and is more than a fish-and-chip shop. Although their fish-and-chips are worth the stop in Meaford. Earlier this week, Sail celebrated its second anniversary of serving customers at this downtown corner.Wow.. All I can Say is Wow!Thank you So much for your kind, wonderful, insightful review... We really do LOVE what We are doing here at SAIL, and Hope that each and every customer through Our door has a similar experience to yours.I will pass you kind review along to the team. They truly are the backbone of this establishment.Heart and Soul - "All In"I look forward to serving you again.Thank youRyan

Megan is now the new owner of The Kitchen! We hired her to cater my birthday party for 50 friends. Megan welcomed my suggestions for multi-cultural food and came up with some delightful apps on her own. Satays, Gazpacho shooters and spicy shrimp were all well received! Death by Chocolate brownies with raspberry sauce almost beat out the birthday carrot cakes! Our kitchen was left spotless and wait staff were extremely well organized! Can't wait for next year's Birthday!

Home cooked breakfast with daily baked breads. Lunch served with home cooked meats and fresh baked breads. lots of daily fresh baked goods.
This is probably one of the hot spots to eat in town for breakfast, brunch and lunch. They've recently expanded, so clearly business is good. Reasonable and good enough food. Similar to the quality of a Sunset Grill. The food is OK, but not extraordinary. I'm glad for their success and hope for a more inventive, flavourful menu in the future. This would no doubt create new patronage and keep new arrivals to town from venturing off to Thornbury and elsewhere for better options.

McGINTYâs food, service, and downtown historical ambience is absolutely fabulous!! and offers GF (gluten free) fare. Pets very mannerly on leash, at entrance patio cafe. Lunch today for our second time, Kim again remembered us! with her contagious smile and warm laughter. Food always fresh, menu variety includes in-house bakery, breads and sweets, salads, quiche, breakfast wrap, soups, all served in healthy, nutritious pairing. For âover the topâ days of indulgence choose from dozens of home made sweets, tea loaf, pie, cookies. Family friendly restaurant with a varied menu sure to please everyone in your group. Family owned, locally focused, community oriented.
The food was great and even our picky eater children enjoyed it. Small, quiet, clean restaurant with friendly atmosphere. The portions were quite big.

Excellent menu with the usual breakfast line-up of eggs, pancakes, Benedictâs, bacon, ham etc plus some dishes available with either chicken or duck eggs.Real maple syrup, wonderful jam, breads. Hash browns need to be more browned and crispy for my taste. Great coffee and pleasant service. Bonus: games, magazines to play whilst there plus interesting preserves for sale on site!

When we are in Meaford on a Wednesday night we always head to The Leeky Canoe. Excellent wings, outstanding service (Kathee), reasonable prices. I have had some excellent soup here but the chicken vegetable was over spiced with an herb I couldnât quite identify. Didnât care for it and it was removed from the bill! Now that is customer service!

Great restaurant
Off the beaten path in a beautiful location. Have driven by for years and now wondering what took us so long. Don't let the architecture fool you, Ted's rustic, casual decor sets the tone for relaxed casual dining. ... and very clean! Ted and family have got it all! Four for dinner, Pickerel, beef ribs, sea bass and prime rib ... so good! Family style restaurant with made from scratch meals, generous portions and excellent pricing. Front staff was very personable and attentive, great interaction; even had Ted come out for a chat. A varied menu, sure to hit the mark for everyone. Well done, folks! Highest recommendation. We'll be back for "Jam Night"
