Things to do in Mahone Bay
Our lobster roll, (purchased at the end of the day) was very good, but not great and there is lots of competition out there for great lobster rolls in N.S. The bun was only ok. They said they were baked fresh daily but it did not seem very fresh. It should be toasted on the cut sides. The lobster filling was very good but needed some lemon added to freshen it up. A lemon wedge came with the roll but that just adds to a soggy bun if used. The lemon juice should be in the lobster filling. The filling did have nice flavour from spring onion. Some fresh dill and parsley would perk up the flavour as well. As others have said $15 plus tax is too much for a roll, no side of any kind and no napkin, no seat to eat it. At least put some good potato chips on the side and give a napkin! I do not know if the food truck has other food offerings besides the lobster rolls. Kudos to the owner and staff for a great idea, it will be lots of fun at events and a welcome addition to the dining scene on the South Shore. I am sure the ladies will refine it and be very successful. Way to go!Hi Idoherty! Thank you for your review. The bun was fresh, but we agree it was not the best bun choice, we have since been trying 5ish other buns to see which is best. As for toasting the bun we unfortunately do not have any heat elements inside the truck. Lemon juice inside the filling may lead to curdling of the mayonnaise, which is why we allow the customers to add lemon at the last moment if they so choose. The price of $15 was decided upon because lobster is the most expensive in recent history at the moment! And since we get the lobster alive, boil it and crack it ourselves for the utmost freshness, we unfortunately have to price accordingly. Napkins were readily available on the service counter next to the salt and pepper, and there was a picnic table right behind the truck. Since it was our first ever weekend open and I am a young entrepreneur I wholeheartedly thank you for your review and will continue the evolve to meet customers needs. -Lobster Jo

We are a family owned business who's goal it is to provide good quality meals and support other local businesses in our community as much as we can. Our meats are now made by a local producer, Chris Webber from Webberfoods. Gluten free, sugar free, no fil
We stopped going to Bayside Pizza due to multiple bad experiences and were pleasantly surprised when Recardo's purchased the restaurant. The pizza is excellent and they have many menu items. I recently ordered fish and chips (home cut fries) as take out and it made two meals. I often see the owners on site and staff are pleasant and efficient. I would think if they re-organized their dining area they would do more than a take out business.
We were in the Mahone Bay area and saw the sign for this French Bakery and the 'open' flag was waving us in. We decided to check it out...and are so thankful we did! Where to start? The breads including baguettes, apricot loaves, croissants, are divine. The sticky buns are very popular, and we sampled the lemon tarts, as well as the croissants with peace slices inside...Heaven! We will need to return for further evaluation, lol. They also have wonderful coffees, lattes, cappucinos etc. Their hours vary...but we will definitely call ahead and place an order to be sure we are not missing out. The staff was very friendly and helpful too

If itâs a nice evening, enjoy dinner on the deck overlooking Mahone Bay. This is an authentic Irish pub and our meal for 3 â 3 2 oz beer, club soda, scallops with chips, scallops with Greek salad and grilled salmon dinner with rice salad was $93, tax in, pre tip. Good food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. A âmust eat hereâ while in Mahone Bay, especially if you are a fan of âThe Curse of Oak Islandâ tv show. The cast often eats here or meet for drinks and are filmed discussing the dayâs finds on the island.

We ate here since we were staying in Mahone Bay and the ratings were good. Well we differ with the ratings big time. The Chowder which is alleged to have received awards was terrible. Very little seafood and lots of filler. My wife had the Haddock which was cooked to death. The Caesar Salad was terrible no anchovies and no taste. the bottled beer was cool and far from cold. Finally there was a creepy guy behind the bar who we assume works there and he was drinking pretty heavily. I guess if you can get a seat outside the scenery might be better, we couldn't.

What a pleasant surprise at 1860. We sat out side to enjoy our scrumptious meal. I would return here many times. The inside seating was perfectly matched with the layout of the house. Our waitress was adorable even though the place got very busy after we arrived. So, our food - yum - BLT with a summer salad & homemade tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich - so very tasty. Highly recommend Circa 1860 for delicious homemade food and relaxing atmosphere.

Since 1986 we have delighted in providing delicious gourmet food to both residents and visitors to Mahone Bay. What started as a simple fruit stand has grown into a market, gourmet deli, bake shop, cafe, jammery and ice cream parlor.
We visited for lunch because our first choice (and a recommendation) was closed. Jo-Ann's is a combination of market place, deli and gourmet foods outlet, a fresh fruit and vegetable stand, a bakery, and a cafe where pre-made sandwiches, various hot and cold dishes, bakery items, cheesecakes, biscuits and various other sweet offerings can be ordered and eaten on the premises (and for take-out, of course). The outlet is rammed with shelves and counters and fridges stocked with all manner of delectable-looking goods. Itâs certainly inviting enough for a browse and for take-out and eat-in food purchases. Itâs all a bit quirky, a bit local, with a great selection of food offerings for sale, but I wasnât as enamoured with this place as I thought I would be. For a start, the service was a bit chaotic, and it all seemed a bit disorganised when our party of five called in for lunch. Itâs so much easier just to have to deal with one person, rather than trying to explain to two or three different servers what you want, then to have to go elsewhere to pay, then back to another point to pick up your food from a different person, and then to go back to someone else to rectify a wrong order situation. The place was busy, but customers seemed a bit lost, milling around once food orders had been placed. A bit of simple streamlining and more consistent and efficient customer service would help here. Some of us ordered hot dishes: the macaroni cheese, the quiche, and the salted cod cakes. Unfortunately they were all served barely warmed through, and it just seemed far too much hassle to take them back for a proper reheating. Sandwiches purchased by others in our party were reasonably fresh; they are pre-made, and ordered from a limited list, handwritten on cards displayed around the counter. Members of our party enjoyed a ham and mustard sandwich, and a lobster sandwich. One of our party had specific dietary needs, with gluten intolerance and various food allergies. It was good that a sandwich was modified to accommodate this; however her gluten free bread was dry and crumbly (we were told it was a bread ordered in by the deli). To be honest she was actually quite taken aback by the paucity of gluten-free options available generally at what would seem to be a busy time for the cafe, and that what appeared to be a plausible option (gluten free banana bread) had âflown off the shelf as soon as it was available for saleâ! If itâs a popular item, you make more. It was very pleasant sitting outside in the covered courtyard to the side. Also, the establishmentâs approach to recycling is commendable. There are other options for dining in Mahone Bay, and weâd probably explore these before returning.

We are opening for the new 2019 season on Wednesday, April 10. We are open from 11:00am till 8:00pm Tuesday - Sunday. Hope to see you soon.
We stopped for lunch at Oh My Cod and were glad we did. A funky restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, located on the harbor, the staff is friendly, provided good service, and the food was great. Would recommend the haddock fish and chips! A fun spot to spend a few minutes over a good meal.

The restaurant was nice and in a nice area. The staff were friendly, but the food wasn't really good.Hi there, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your food. Did you mention to your server that you were unhappy? We train our staff to to immediately offer another menu item if a customer is not pleased with what they have ordered. We have many, many return customers who tell us and on social media how happy they are with the food we have serve. It would be great to know exactly what you didn't like the food. Please message me- [email protected] and we'd be happy to send you a gift certificate so you can give us another try and find out what went wrong for you. Thanks,Lisa

The Biscuit Eater is a friendly community cafe and bookstore serving homemade, handmade goodness in Mahone Bay's oldest building. Fresh baked buttermilk biscuits, locally roasted coffee, stacks of cookies and baked treats, delicious soups, sandwiches and
Sometimes we Canadians are too polite and just donât want to cause a fuss. I should have yesterday, after my visit to the Biscuit Eater Cafe and Books for breakfast. My friend and I were looking for breakfast and found a number of places were closed Monday in Mahone Bay. We both ordered the basic breakfast with a biscuit. We both requested eggs OVER EASY and I stressed that when I placed my order. The person who took the order clearly wrote that on the order as I saw it. We waited at least half an hour for our food despite the fact we were the only table without food when we arrived and ordered. People at two other tables had clearly finished eating. When our meals arrived, the bacon and eggs were both cold and SERIOUSLY over cooked. The potatoes were nicely roasted, but also cold. Other people had arrived after us and were placing orders so I expect our breakfasts were ready long before they were delivered. Now, eggs are a very basic breakfast item. If you are going to work in a kitchen and give customers a choice as to how they would like their eggs cooked, you better be able to deliver. There was no excuse for the quality of the food we received. The one redeeming factor was the generous biscuit with butter and jam. The biscuits were delicious and the jam tasted homemade. So, next time I am not happy with the quality of food I receive, I will still be polite, but I will explain my displeasure so it can be rectified. We are so sorry to hear that you had such a disappointing breakfast with us and you are absolutely right that we often suffer from being overly polite. You are also right that eggs are a basic, and important breakfast item. We are in the process of training new staff and unfortunately it sounds as though your breakfast was not up to our usual standard. I also wish you had let us know so that we could have fixed the problems and had you leave happy instead of disappointed. Please accept our apologies and an offer to refund the cost of your breakfast if you would like to reach out to us at [email protected] If you happen to travel to Mahone Bay again please do give us another chance to make you some delicious food. Thanks so much for your feedback
