Find out what Canadian restaurants to try in Grand Manan. Grand Manan Island (also simply Grand Manan) is a Canadian island, and the largest of the Fundy Islands in the Bay of Fundy. It is the primary island in the Grand Manan Archipelago, sitting at the boundary between the Bay of Fundy and the Gulf of Maine on the Atlantic coast. Grand Manan is jurisdictionally part of Charlotte County in the province of New Brunswick.

A sweet little cantina just before the bridge in the village of Seal Cove on Grand Manan. The food is FRESH and FLAVOURFUL. We offer Authentic Mexican Food and Island Fare. Loads of Taco options, Burgers on Homemade buns, Homemade icecream and much more.
Tasty tacos -- if you can even find this place -- but be prepared to wait a long time, even if you are the only customer during the off season (late-September).  We ordered fish tacos, once we rounded up the cook/owner, who was at her compost heap instead of the food truck, even though she'd been '"open" for over an hour. She then said that she didn't have any rice and beans cooked, so she'd give us four tacos instead of three to compensate. Okay, that seemed fair. Then she confessed that she still had to make the tacos, so it would take about 20 minutes, and suggested that we should go sightseeing. Well, we'd already been sightseeing all morning and were ready to eat! Plus we'd been on a wild goose chase the previous day trying to find this place because she hadn't updated her location for months online, only updating it the morning we placed our order. Even with the new address, it was puzzling to find. The only sign we finally noticed was on the northern perimeter, giving the impression it was the neighbor's driveway that led to the food truck, so we pulled in there initially. The truck is actually tucked parallel to the side of her house, down a long, narrow driveway -- so it's essentially hidden from the road unless one really scans the entire property while driving by. When the order was finally ready, we couldn't charge the meal because her credit system wouldn't read a standard VISA with a chip or a swipe. So be sure you have Canadian currency. Contrary to the photo shown at this website, there's no place to sit or eat at this new location, so we drove to the national park to eat. The tacos were tasty and a good quality. We particularly liked that the fish wasn't heavily battered. All the other food trucks we've tried across the country are good-to-go when we are, so the food is ready to be cooked or plated, and the order is ready in minutes. This cook/owner needs to rethink her priorities, especially during open hours. If she'd had all of her food ready to be ordered, we wouldn't have cared if she was moonlighting in the compost while she waited for customers.Â

Ate here twice over Canada Day weekend. First time had a lobster roll which was so thick I could barely get my mouth around it and second time had the seafood platter which was also really good with a little bit of everything and not greasy at all. Very friendly staff here.
As you drive down the island you could easily miss Food for Thought, but that would be a shame. Apparently, they began as a catering business and branched out to provide simple, delicious lunches during the busy season. The location is a house, the food is prepared freshly, in front of you (if you wish), the staff are very welcoming and patient, and the results very nice indeed. There is a small patio on one side, you can eat inside or take out. We had very pleasant sandwiches supplemented with a shared salad (pre-made in a refrigerator). Very low key, no professional veneer and very good results.

The trip over (and back) to Grand Manan Island is done on one of two small car ferries operated by Coastal Transport Limited. The ferries have a gift shop, play area for kids and a restaurant. The food in the restaurant is quite decent and the price is reasonable. The ferry loads and unloads reasonably quickly and the trips we had were very smooth and comfortable. There is a nice lounge area were you can sit for the 1.5 hour ride or you can spend time on the open deck. The ferry dock in Black's Harbour is easy to find. Hint: fill the gas tank of the car in Black's Harbour as there is only one gas station on Grand Manan and the fuel costs more there.

Considering the fact that Grand Manan island has over 2000 permanent residents and a car ferry that brings residents and tourists from the mainland every 2 hours, there is a dearth of dining options on the island. There are a few excellent choices for breakfast and lunch, but not for dinner. My wife and I stayed in a room upstairs and ended up having dinner in the restaurant, which is open to the public with limited hours for dinner, 2 of the 3 nights we were there. It is not a large room, so reservations are recommended. We were admittedly not good about that, but they accommodated us nicely both nights. The restaurant has great views of the harbor as do the bedrooms upstairs. Fried haddock seems to be a staple of the otherwise changing and limited menu. Not usually appealing to me. But I tried it and it was so good that I ended up having it twice. It tasted more sauteed than fried, a generous portion with a wonderful flavor. Prices are reasonable for island fare and the service is friendly. Having checked out some other dining options on the island, I would recommend the restaurant at Compass Rose as a dependable choice.

Welcome to the Harbour Grille! If itâs good old fashioned Grand Manan cooking and hospitality youâre hankerinâ for, youâve come to the right place! Weâre mighty proud of our home made specials like roast beef or haddock with mashed potatoes and fresh vegg
They have tasty "greasy spoon" or "diner" type food.Had a very tasty. cheap and greasy burger.Don't expect to be treated anything like "special" or "appreciated" .. its just a "wadayawant" kind of place !Simple, Direct ...... take it or leave it, but the closest thing to a burger joint that this island has to offer. Cheap eats to fill yer gut !Hey canuk4U! Seasons Greetings and thanks so much for taking the time to write a review! Glad you liked the burger! We're pretty proud of them and next time you visit we'll try to successfully 'fill yer gut' and work on being more congenial! (: All the best in 2019!Bernie

There are surprisingly few choices on Grand Manan for edible food. My wife and I stopped here once for takeout baked goods and once for lunch inside. It's a wonderful, bustling place with lots of goodies and a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. They are also very environmentally conscious. Too bad there are so few choices of this quality for dinner on the island.
