Things to do in Xiahe County
Reopened in 2019 in a great new location by the river, we serve great Nepali and western dishes. We also carry an extensive selection of beers brewed on the Tibetan Plateau.
It's always a bit worrying when you walk into a restaurant and the staff are eating McDonalds (or the local Chinese equivalent of burger & fries). So I was a bit dubious. However, the chicken curry with rice was tasty enough, although the side salad smothered in fake mayonnaise was not helpful. The Tibetan noodles was very bland. A strange flavour to the soup, with bits of grisly meat and fat, flat noodles. Rather tasteless. All this came to RMB90 which is one of the most expensive meals I've had in China. When you can get better quality and far cheaper street food in most places, Xiahe has certainly cornered the market in taking foreigners for what they're worth. Nice friendly staff and local decor made up for it, but it's never fun to be the only diner in the restaurant.

A cozy cafe with friendly atmosphere and comfortable sittings where you can enjoy fresh coffee, tea, house-made cakes and real food from the plateau made with love.
Norden Cafe is a perfect place to relax and unwind while visiting Labrang and its Monastery, located right across the street. Whether its just for a coffee/tea or a full delicious meal, you'll be able to take in the thoughtful mix of Tibetan, Chinese, and Western atmosphere, which is reflected in both the food and its customers (you may even get to sit next to a Tibetan monk). The hosts are so kind and generous, and will even help you with any travel tips you need! Wifi is also great.
Where to eat Tibetan food in Xiahe County: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Great vibes, great atmosphere, great manager who speaks great English, great cocktails, great coffee, great fresh fruit juices, great music, great prices with the fastest free wifi in town.A cosy coffee shop, the perfect place to hang out or relax. The owner is very helpful and willing to share his knowledge on the area. A little bit difficult to find as located off the main road : walking down the main road, with your back to the monastery, take the road to the right (opposite Crystal Hotel). Coffee Top is on the right side, close to the end of the road, near the river.
