Things to do in Taketomi-jima
While visiting Ishigaki Island on a recent cruise, my wife and I elected to have lunch at a local restaurant a few miles out of the main city center. After exiting the taxi and approaching the front door we found the intended restaurant closed. While there we were approached by a young lady from an adjacent building who told us the restaurant is only open in the summer and that she has a small restaurant next door. We elected to have lunch there and glad we did. The restaurant consisted of two tables and a sofa with a coffee table is run by a very friendly young couple who immediately made us feel welcome into what was obviously their home as well. Although choices on the menu were limited, the food is was well prepared and delicious. But the food was not what made this experience memorable. It was the hospitality and welcoming atmosphere of the owners. It felt as if we were invited into their home as honored guests. While there a few local residents came in for lunch filling the small dining area. The experience was a treat that made the visit to the island a lifetime memory.

It looks quite dark from the outside so I thought it was closed at first but it is part of the restaurant's atmosphere. I recall really enjoying my food and the location is very close to the city center.

Food, art and music are the theme for the contemporary restaurant You can enjoy original dishes using island foodstuffs, and the art, the literaly writings and music from all over the world. It can be relaxed to the person with children or woman travelling
Having spent our first night walking around trying to find this restaurant, we were determined to find it on the second attempt and I am so glad we did. Its a quirky restaurant owned and run by a friendly married couple. Fortunately they have an English menu so we settled down and waited for our food. As the previous evening we had only eaten snacks from the local supermarket, I was looking forward to enjoying some fresh food and vegetables. This bar/restaurant combines the couples love for music, art and food in a contemporary setting and we loved the friendly warm atmosphere. Fortunately the food was delicious and I particularly enjoyed the fresh home made carrot sauce, now sold in bottles as well as the freshly made strawberry yoghurt drink. I'm unlikely ever to return to Ishigaki, but if I did, this we be the first restaurant I would head to. Highly recommended.

I stopped here for breakfast one morning. Great options and dining area. 500 JPY for a bakery item, small salad and hot drink, or 900 JPY for buffet breakfast (pastries, cereal, scrambled egg, yoghurt, bread and jams, salad, hot drinks, etc). Thought very good value and the food was very good. Great location - right by the ferry terminal if you need some food before heading out for the day! Some nice seats outside as well

First time i heard about this "Euglena" thing, that they say it's very healthy. We tried the carbonara pasta with euglena, and also taco rice, both were delicious. Not so expensive, the atmosphere is great and the toilet is clean and tidy.
What a treat to get a nice, RARE, tuna steak in Japan! This was panko covered and fried. But it was not over cooked. And, outside of Tokyo, thatâs like finding a unicorn.Apps (tapas, on the menu) were good too.Service with a smile.

Amazing burger place. Really loved their burger with avocado and wasabi. I would go there everyday if it wasn't for the fact that it is so far from my home. I've been craving for one of their burgers every day since I returned and it has been over 2 months now!

We stayed on Taketomi for 6 days and this place was a regular for us - great food, ice cold beer, lovely service and an English menu. What more do you need! Try the Ishigaki hamburger, served with a fried egg, salad and pickles. It's the best hamburger on the island. My favourite though is the chicken skin gyoza: minced chicken stuffed into chicken thigh skin, rolled then deep fried - delicious!!

It's not the easiest place to find Restuarants to eat this time of year but came across this place winding through the village roads. Certainly not the only place we found it easy to choose food from the menu due to the pictures as our Japanese is limited. I went for the shrimp curry with rice whilst my wife for a vegetarian option. Both were good and made better by the draft beer!
