Having read the TA reviews, was expecting something quite special. Had coffee and a slice of Victoria Sponge, the coffee was ok, the sponge cake did not have a very good consistency, and was quite dry. Now a little worried what the other cafes are like if this is one of the best in Paignton.

Handily placed to grab the just arrived Steam train passengers we nipped in after spotting the rows of Pastyâs demanding to be eaten. Pleasant staff apologised that the steak & Ale were still 10 mins away from ready so I had the simple steak one. Delicious! Unfortunately the Wifeâs lemon drizzle cake, whilst âvery lemonyâ was a little stale. Pity as this was handy âfast foodâ. Cafe to nip into.

Family run cafe serving breakfasts , main meals including roasts , snacks and hot and cold drinks. Friendly atmosphere.
We have enjoyed this cafe for years with the Previous owners. Having learned it had been taken away over, we had our usual large breakfast. The food was ok. Good presentation, warm welcome from new owners. But , as I empathise with hard working families, we were left feeling uneasy with the new owners children playing, in the cafe on a Sunday morning. We have a family ourselves, which we adore. We visited this establishment for a hearty breakfast away from children, a break away, for half an hour or so. We were left feeling we were âbaby sittingâ someone elseâs children. Walking over toys, etc. Slightly unprofessional. We are sorry you feel that way. We were let down by the childminder and , as you can appreciate , couldn't leave them home alone. As I remember, they had one toy each, a bus and a small round teddy bear. Glad you enjoyed the breakfast, apologies if the experience was ruined.Mick and Shelley

Visited for breakfast whilst on holiday as it had been recommended to us. We both had eggs benedict, one with bacon and one with smoked salmon. Friendly service and tasty food. It is slightly pricey but for the quality of food, definitely worth it if you fancy treating yourself. Thank you for your great review. We are glad that you enjoyed your breakfast with ushere at Below Decks.

Walking the coast path into Paignton and checked trip advisor for somewhere for coffee and this came up. Excellent quality coffee and delicious home made cakes. Eccles Cake like I have never had before. So tasty. Lovely family run business and spotlessly clean. Will definitely use again.

Whilst visiting a friend who lives in Paignton we have popped into the lions monocle several times and never been disappointed with the range of cocktails... Just wish I could drink more in one visit! Just means I have to go back as often as possible! The drinks are great and staff are marvelous and very friendly. Highly recommended.

We have a range of All Day breakfasts to suit all appetites at very good prices. Lunches are served all day too. We also have a lovely covered garden area which is happy to accommodate well behaved dogs. All just a short walk from the town centre.
Haven't been for some time and appears to be a new regime. Very friendly Scottish lady served us and I had the Scottish breakfast which was excellent. We are a long way from Scotland. My wife's meal was really nice as well. Highly recommended. Was great to meet you both and glad you enjoyed your meals.

We are a friendly, family-run cafe/bar/restaurant set on the edge of beautiful Youngs Park. Just a stones throw from Goodrington Sands Beach. We welcome dogs and everyone else! Our food is freshly cooked from raw ingredients. From doorstep sandwiches to o
Absolutely awful service.Waited 15 min for 4 coffees after being asked to wait to one side for my order and watched while others joined the queue and received their drinks and cakes before me.When I questioned why I was told âwe have a system âObviously not!! Poor service, poor overpriced drinks and a completely chaotic queuing system with three queues filtering into one.My advice would be if you want food or drinks.......Go to the pub next door.

The food tasted nice and the separate gluten free menu was comprehensive (I had a gluten free panini for example, gluten free afternoon tea was an option). It was a greasy spoon type cafe however and the service was a bit lack-lustre, but putting that to one side there is nothing wrong with it. I asked for a filling in my panini which was available as a sandwich but not in the panini options and they happily made what I asked for.Overall a strong 4/5.

After reading previous reviews I was really looking forward to having a cream tea, unfortunately both the plain and fruit scones were dry to the point I needed tea to wash it down. My other gripe is that my wife asked for decaffeinated coffee and there was an additional charge which we were not told about when ordering.Dear dan78uk thankyou for your feed back. We are really upset and a little surprised at your comments as we take great pride in the quality of our food and drink. Indeed just this week we have had many many guests partaking of our renowned cream and afternoon teas and all other feed back we have received as been exceptional. With regard to the extra charge you mention, this is clearly shown on the menu and is added simply to reflect the extra costs we incur on the specialist decaf coffee we serve.
