A hidden gem off a main road. A bakery, but you can have free coffee and enjoy apastry on the patio. Magnificent mountain views. The large Fr. bread was crisp on the outside, holey and chewy on the inside, with good stretch. And a large loaf for 240 Yen.A steal.

I worked in a nearby Ski resort the whole winter season 1995-1996. We would drive down every Wednesday to chill in Café Shoozoo: meaning Elephant (if my Japanese proves correct?). I remember the owner had worked in Franceâ¦He'd hand pour boiled water into coffee filters over wine glasses, and stick a whole cinnamon stick in the coffee⦠Toast spread with grainy mustard, red capsicum bits and melted cheeseâ¦homemade scones with raspberry jamâ¦and the trendy retro store downstairsâ¦.Edith Piaf music in the background.

My wife and I typically visit Nasu at least 2~3 times a year, mainly for relaxing, hot springs and sipping a coffee at Shozo Cafe.Situated in the main road of Nasu when there is huge traffic on the weekends. More than enough parking lots available, but the place is always full of people. Sometimes you would wait to wait in the queue to park your car and get in. We usually drop in before heading back to Tokyo, so the queue was not that long. One of my favorite is Cappuccino and Cafe Latte! Cheese cake is also worth a try!

The atmosphere was interesting, with heaps of Beatles memorabilia throughout the room ... although a wee bit dear (but perhaps normal for being a tourist resort place, I guess), the food was big and pretty good! The beef stew was chunky and the cheese fondue ... a tasty rich cheesy sauce with plenty of bread and a few snags.

If not so expensive, they would have get higher rate from me. Nice food products. Unfortunately, most products are way overpriced. They shop itself is really beautiful. Everything is an an extraordinary order and all staff looks more like mental institute personnel, rather then food shop senders...
