This cafe came up on TripAdvisor when we were looking for a cafe to visit during our stay in Tomamu Hoshino Resort. This takes about 15 mins by car and located along the road. A simple family-owned and charming place for dessert - cakes, ice cream and coffee. I think they serve lunch too. The owners are friendly and speaks limited English, but they told me that they grow their own berries and come July, many visitors come by to pick berries. Behind the cafe is a fast flowing river, and you can catch white-water rafters doing their thing as they flow downhill. The kids enjoyed themselves shouting out and waving to the rafters. :)

Located at the top floor of Risonare, this Italian themed cafe/restaurant offers fantastic view of the mountains. Unlike other restaurants, it was also not crowded at all. We went there once for lunch and we had the whole place to ourselves ! We were worried they wouldn't allow us to go in with our ski boots but they were in fact fine with them. Food choices were limited but with the great view and relaxing atmosphere, everything just tasted that bit better !
The place is crowded as we entered for dinner at around 5.45pm but we were seated very quickly. The waitress was polite and patient with our order. We ordered the usual - lamb, mutton, beef to feed 4, and I request for pork belly and chicken thigh. The standard vegetables are bean spouts, spring onion, white onion which is sweet and I understand is their Hokkaido's produce The meal went well and by the time we leave the restuarant around 7pm, there is a queue. They give a QR code that we can register and got a free ice cream.

On a skiing trip to Japan we stumbled across this little bar that turned out to be only place that sold relatively cheap white wine and good snack food. Travellers tip is if you like your wine Australian style DONT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try the local brew since it seems to be infused with lavender and any other seasonal flowers. This bar served an Italian white wine at just over $A 35 per bottle which over five days we consumed all their stock ( which wasnât much). The best value was the hamburgers with chips and a small beer which was the pick of a rather eclectic mix of snacks ranging from ice cream, cakes, sushi and sushimi.Staff were great and the place was clean if a little sterile in character
