We ate salads for lunch and stayed on the "weightwatchers" freestyle plan easily. The restaurant was clean, great service, and had a real hometown feel. It is locally owned and operated and we talked with one of the owners. It is worth getting off the highway to have a meal at Lucy's Two! Also, we would stop there again and try other items on the menu. Top rating for this restaurant.
Dawn's is a McAlester institution (forgive the pun given the presence of multiple prisons). It is on Carl Albert as you enter town from Indian Nations Turnpike. It is next to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation; do not take one of there public spots. This place is PACKED al lunch and with very good reasons. The servers are sassy, funny and an absolute blast. They know their regulars and make you feel as if you are a regular even if you are a newbie. The interior is large and old time. Nothing fancy, it is a mix of tables and booths. Board specials available daily except Sundays (closed).Dawn's is a homage to every small town in Oklahoma that always had that go-to place. When you walk in at Dawn's, the chances you will recognize other patrons is extremely high. Now, the food. It is all excellent. The catfish is now served daily and feeds two adults easily in my opinion. The catfish is perfectly breaded, the fillets massive , and no fishiness or grease at all. We added the optional fried shrimp (also excellent) Fries are hand cut and well prepared. Please remember this area of Oklahoma is one of the best fishing spots in the region. The chicken fried steak is 2 plates; no joke. Two. The chicken fry occupies one plate and is heaped in traditional home made sausage gravy. Itis nicely breaded and not gristly or chewey. Mashed potatoes were lumpless and served in great portions. The rolls were also good. The nachos are massive and made with fresh produce. I add many vegetables to mine and request LOTS of salsa which the servers accommodate. The chicken tenders rate with the above as does the hamburger steak (onions fried in). The hamburger is huge and one of the best in the region. Meat quality is top notch, great bun, and ingredients loaded on.Service is excellent and is maintained at a high level even if you have a large group. This is one of my favorite places in McAlester.
The muffaletta sandwich was awesome! Got the olive salad on the side so I could put as much or as little as I wanted on it! The cheesy potato soup was the side I picked and it did not disappoint
