This restaurant was built during the Civil War! The decor - wood EVERY WHERE, gorgeous saloon-like coffee bar, stained glass, and absolutely intriguing detail all over the restaurant giving off the "Poe Vibe". Climb the stairs for the best view of the musicians that play on the weekend. Go Sunday for their Trivia Pursuit night (free and prizes to be won)! There's comfortable furniture on which to chill and listen to the the music on the weekend, and let's not forget the food. Mainly sandwiches with delicious subtle additions to keep the food interesting and "their own". Magnificent selection of soups, decent salads (potato salad is divine!), desserts and coffee and teas of every description, and alcoholic beverages too. This isn't just about food, it's a GREAT experience. Come for dinner, stay to play a board game, take a book off the shelf, or plug in your laptop. This place is an EXPERIENCE not to be missed! You'll want to come back, again, and again, and ...

This Cold Stone Creamery is attached to a Tim Hortons. It was my first try ordering an Oreo Ice Cream and it was average at best. To be honest I wasn't really expecting much but couldn't resist seeing the picture of what looked like cookies and cream ice cream. It was actually Oreos mixed in with vanilla ice cream and I would be okay with that but when I received the ice cream it didn't really have Oreos and had more of these little chocolate chips which made the entire thing too sweet. The ice cream seemed like it had freezer burn and was just too icy and I couldn't taste the vanilla. The service here is great and this location is very quiet and spacious - some people use it for studying.

Reading the TA reviews; we came to realize there are multiple locations for Kate's. Our experience with Kate's came about at the Maritime Center. Enjoying the information, helpful volunteers and wonderful views of the St. Clair river and all it's activity; we decided to stay awhile longer and have an afternoon snack. The staff in the small cafe area were friendly and attentive; and the Huron sandwich (chicken salad on cranberry-walnut bread) was quite tasty, and amply portioned. They also made a very decent Arnold Palmer (ice tea and lemonade).Since our receipt said Kate's Downtown; we thought that was the name of the eatery in the Center. Apparently we now have another location to check out, on our next visit to the area (though it's difficult to imagine the views would be as good).
