Things to do in Howick
This is where the locals like to meet, this buzzing little coffee shop in the centre of Howick, serving all day breakfast, light lunches, homemade pastries and cakes.
Great place! Best cappuccino in Howick! Best breakfast! Good food. Great price. Best place to refuel in lovely surroundings and attentive staff. Why go anywhere else?
Reaganâs Instagram page of their forthcoming opening got tongues wagging and the excitement was tangible. Howickâs old Corner Post was being transformed into a proper fine dining establishment. We also heard had a few raving reviews from friends. We made our booking for a Wednesday evening. They had had a busy lunch with bookings galore so perhaps not surprising that our supper was a bit a bit disappointing. The menu is fairly limited which can be a good thing as the chef supposedly then concentrates his attention on each specific dish more enthusiastically. However our fare was pretty lack lustre. The most frustrating part however was that the understaffed waiters and host were very eager to usher us out by 21:00 and we felt award even asking for a coffee after dessert.I think Reaganâs has a lot of potential but they need to concentrate on welcoming their patrons and making them feel more welcome.
La Petite France is a small, newish restaurant, situated about 6km out of Howick on the Karkloof road. The restaurant offers a simple but interesting menu, with a few dishes being centred around cheese, as Preston Farm, where the restaurant is located, produces a selection of handmade cheeses. At the time of writing, the restaurant wasn't licensed, but that wasn't a problem for us. Because it was a windy day, we opted to sit inside, beneath a grapevine, which gave the place a continental feel. The decor is basic but effective and the staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant overlooks pastures where the cattle graze and it's very relaxing, sitting beneath the grapevine, whilst overlooking the farmland and timber plantations. The food was freshly prepared and very tasty and the strawberry mousse dessert was delicious! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and everything was served with a smile!I believe La Petite France has only been open for 6 months but I'm sure it will become a firm favourite with the residents of Howick as it's a little bit different from your average eatery and the food was great!

My husband had visited this restaurant once before, which is adjacent to the BP garage, while he was having the car washed. He had coffee and read the paper and suggested we go there one day after shopping at P&P. There was a crowd of people being a Saturday morning and most were having breakfast. We only wanted coffee but ordered one of their Giant Muffins too! Luckily we only ordered one, as it was huge and neither of us could have eaten one each!! Still we enjoyed it and the coffee was good too. The staff were all pleasant and the service good. The outside area tables were full and the children were having a great time swinging and sliding in the garden. A very nice atmosphere inside and out.

Trendy Coffee Bar serving all Day Breakfast , Lunch and decadent baked goodies... and good coffee. Open 7 days a week. Free WIFI offered... and a friendly reminder about the old saying.. if you cant say anything positive..keep it to yourself.
We decided on The Treatery for an early lunch. Although the venue was pleasant, the service was rather mediocre, with us having to ask twice for more bread. We ordered the Soup of the day which was Cauliflower soup - tasty indeed and the Chicken liver pate 'platter for two' came with 3 slices of ciabata bread (definitely too little for 2 to share), 5 grapes, half an apple, 5 olives & relish. The chicken liver pate was really delicious but the relish was rather a strange 'add' to the platter. I wasn't sure what we were to eat the relish with.Thank you for your response. The relish is actually a great add to the Chicken Liver Pate Platter as it adds an sweet and acidic element.. and you are meant to layer the flavours...thats why grapes, olives and apple is added... to give you a different experience. We traditionally serve it with 3 slices of Ciabatta, which is usually more than enough. We are sad that you did not seem to enjoy the experience and would hope that we will see you again soon.

We met with family for lunch. Disappointing that vegetarian and vegan options not really available. Chips and salad becomes very boring!Quiche was good. On tap G & Tâs - is there really gin in there??Dear Norma W Thank you for your review, it is so difficult to offer options for all the different dietary requirements and eating preferences, but is something we are looking into having better options for. There are some great vegetarian options at the Pizza Place as well as in our salad selection. Kind Regards Rudi Kassier

Visited this restaurant last Sunday thank goodness we had booked it was packed. Best meal I have had for a long time. We all had something diffeÅent and all enjoyed it. Wine list very reasonable. Nice atmosphere. Good service and presentation. Be wonderful to be able to have lunch in the large gardens in summer. Of course an excellent cup of coffee finished off the meal.
