Ernest is a small independent cafe, bar and restaurant situated in the top end of the Ouseburn. We do our very best to serve up honest food, drink, music and art. Open every day from 10am until late for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, drinking and danci
Came with my partner for breakfast this morning food was amazing but the service really let the place down for us we felt like other tables were getting accommodated better than us got offered specials as we didnât just felt like we got left and werenât the type of people to be in there also had to order my coffee twice finally came at the end of the meal. We felt judged and Unattended to! Great food poor service to certain people as it seems Hi.Really sorry to hear you had this experience. It does get very busy at Ernest over the weekend but even so, we expect our staff to treat everyone with the same degree of respect and attention - it's a very democratic place so I can only apologise that this wasn't your experience. Drop me an email: [email protected] and I'll get back to you with an offer to encourage you back!BestMark

I were lucky enough to drop in 'ere with 't wife on a plod back from that Jesmond yesterday afternoon. She was needin' some o' that bean juice and a snack so I suggests a bag o winkles an' a pint. "Nay lad", says she. Let's drop in on this fancy establishment - we can be t' talk of neighbours! It's even got seats 'n windows. By... didn't it 'alf life. Swanky it were.We nipped in and a nice young lad, he found us a table right away! Didn' even tell me to tak off me clogs or wait outside t' back door! Charmin 'e was that young lad! Wife took a right shine she did.Anyway, down to 't vittals! Now 'er, she ordered a one of them 'mocca's! What were it you may ask? Were it coffee? Choccy? Nay! It were BOTH. Madness it were! Who knows what t' ladies at the tea hovel back 'ome would be sayin! Tastes nice it did too. As fer gettin' some vittals... well colour me pink if that there cheese n jam board didn't step up to the oche!A right big plate it were! Full wi THREE cheeses! THREE! I didn't even know there was more than two! (Cheddar 'n grated!) One were from a goat of all things even! Served wi two pots o' jam - lovely they were - pickle jam and sommat called Quince and some right fancy toast. It was right swank it was, filled us up lovely wi'out makin' the wife too bloated for t' tram ome. Anyway we cleared off that plate like t' Vicar finishin' a glass of gin and paid the nice lad for t' vittles. Eh, they didn't even check me pockets for stolen silverware - classy as 'eck it is.Any'ow me 'n t' missus would say this is a grand place for one of them afternoon bites. An y' don't even need a sunday suit t' get in. Splendid. Try that afternoon Cheese Board. THREE cheeses and none of 'em cheddar! Madness!Anyway back to 't work for me. Always on the lookout for a good breakfast in Newcastle and went here Thursday morning on the basis of good reviews on TripAdvisor. Good location under the Tyne Bridge, the place has a nice relaxing feel to it.Had the full English breakfast which was very good accompanied by a very nice Americano. Will return.

Met up with friends at Long Play Cafe on the Quayside. Would definitely recommend. Lovely staff who were so relaxed. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had the salmon and cream cheese bagel. I could not complain- there was plenty on my plate, so filling. I will definitely return and recommend others to do the same.

I've been here quite a few times for food or just a coffee and it's been exceptional everytime. Plenty of fantastic, mostly vegan food to choose from in a perfect location right in the city centre. The only criticism is the hours, 6pm close Mon-Thurs, 8pm Fri-Sat and 5pm Sun. I don't understand why they close so early as often I would rather eat later than 6pm mid week and 5pm on a Sunday. I took my entire 6 person flat here at 7pm the other day only to find it was closed. I'd really really recommend the management consider opening until later as they must be missing out on so much business AND opportunities to serve up ethically sound food!Hi Jake, Thank you so much for the great review, we really appreciate it.We've been in the city centre for over 6 years now and have tried different opening times and have found the hours we open at the moment are the only viable ones unfortunately. We would love to be open late every night and will definitely look at that in the future but for now we can only open later on Friday and Saturday. Thanks again for the review, hope to see you again soon :)

At Starks it's all about serving fresh, tasty food using the best ingredients. During the day we serve brunch from 10 - 3pm and a selection of cakes until 5pm. In the evening we set the tables, light the candles and offer a vibrant, seasonal dinner menu.
Every now and again you come across a place where they just got things right and Starks Kitchen is one of those places. The decor is simple, modern, clean and bright with white walls, tasteful prints and a mix of banquette seating and chairs. Two of us went for the veggie Sunday roast while the third went for beef. Dinner took a little way to arrive but was great when it did. I'm not a veggie, but the nut roast was delicious, my wife enjoyed the beef which was tender and cooked just pink. The plates arrived with a good Yorkshire pud, roast potatoes, a quenelle of mashed potato, a quenelle of carrot & swede and of course gravy. A bowl of french beans, cabbage and some mange tout came out for the table plus side of cauliflower cheese.Everything was great, really great. The veg was perfectly cooked and tasty. If I was going to be really picky, the gravy was slightly over seasoned but hey, I don't use a lot of salt!I went for the cheese as a pudding, an excellent cheddar and a soft blue, while my daughter went for the pecan pie.The meal was finished off with a couple of good coffees. We booked for a late Sunday lunch via Open Table on the same day which worked well. All round, a really good experience and I thought, good value.

We have Traditional Persian food also do all day English breakfasts We do meals with flat bread and also serve with rice. We now do delivery through Deliveroo
Recently stayed nearby and had dinner twice at the cafe. On both occasions the Meal was tasty, generous servings with lovely fresh salad to accompany. I would rate the flat bread as possibly the best I have ever had with the lamb wrap. Great service and great value.

I booked afternoon tea as a treat for Mothers day but on paying was charged extra for the 'tea'. Food was nice apart from the scones which were quite dry. Atmosphere here is nice, very peaceful and relaxing. We apologise for this unreservedly. This seems to have been a mistake on the part of one of our members of staff. We are contacting you to arrange a refund of the amount concerned. Thanks for the feedback on the scones. We've noted this and have taken steps to make sure they're better in future.

Absolutely superb menu & food to match. I had the shin of beef ragu on sourdough and it was fantastic. Portions are just the right size and flavours to suit. Best breakfast Iâve eaten in Newcastle. Will be back very soon.
