It is located on the South Fork of the Eel River 52 miles (84 km) south-southeast of Eureka, at an elevation of 535 feet (163 m). The population was 913 at the 2010 United States Census. It is approximately 200 miles (320 km) north of San Francisco, California, and within a fifteen-minute drive to Humboldt Redwoods State Park and a sixty-minute drive to Eureka, the county seat. Garberville is the primary town in the area known as the Mateel Region, consisting of parts of the Mattole and Eel River watersheds in southern Humboldt and northern Mendocino counties.

Driving 101, hungry, getting late at night, limited choice of places to stop. By luck, drove past Woodrose Cafe, and as it was on our side of the street, and there was easy pull-in parking, decided to get dinner here.Woodrose Cafe is now going to be our place to stop when we're on 101. We had the golden chicken, which was a large helping of delicious chicken with creamy, bacon-y sauce. The apple pie was good, but not great, as it didn't have enough apple filling to suit me.Service was delightful and attentive. Nice, friendly, comfortable vibe.

After a tasty breakfast in a pleasant environment with friendly service, I accidentally did not get my credit card back. When I called to see if it was there and ask them to destroy it, they offered to mail it to me instead...much appreciated!

After driving through the Chandelier Tree, we headed for the Avenue of Giants. We arrived in Garberville, spotted the Eel River Cafe and decided to have lunch. It turned out to be a fun and authentic small town coffee shop, complete with a lunch counter and a cool, very pleasant waitress. She kindly gave us directions to where we wanted to go next. To our surprise the menu featured grass-fed organic beef and lots of other fresh, local ingredients. My husband had a very good hamburger and my BLT was also delicious.
