We had been told about this place but not had the chance to visit until today. Do not judge by appearances. Inside is the most delicious home cooked food. Generous portions of delicious fresh food served by friendly smiling staff who worked SOOOO hard. I had the MOST scrumptious bagel with cream cheese and lots of smoked salmon, wonderful cauliflower soup enjoyed by my husband. It was very busy but the two ladies serving seemed so calm and so friendly as I guess were the two in the kitchen. Thank you sooo much. We will be back. I hope your boss knows how hard your work!!!!

Called hear whilste we were out and about for the day. The place was pretty ful but we found a table on the lower deck and ordered the food. My wife is gluten and dairy intolerant so she ordered ham, peas and chips, whilst I ordered a quiche salad. We then sat there for about 25 minutes until the food arrived. My wifes "gluten" free meal was delivered as a steak pie and my quiche salad was nothing more than a piece of quiche with a couple of lettuce leaves. We immediatly complained and the waitress took them away saying she had brought the wrong order.A further 30 minutes passed before the correct food finally arrived,I will say that the food was very good when it finally got to us but the sevice was very poor throughout.Hi,Thank you for reviewing us, and I can only apologise that your visit wasn't as it should have been.We do get quite busy, but that's no excuse for the mix up in your order and we can only say we are sorry that this happened and extended your waiting time even further.I appreciate you taking the time to bring this to my attention.Your custom is important to us and I do hope you will give us another visit.Kind regardsJohn And Lynda

Just round the corner from the Borders Railway station and Bus Interchange, T-4-2 Express is quite a small establishment (I only discovered later that there's a bigger sister branch in the centre of the town). The main business is takeaways, but there's one clever space-saving table in a corner, and also a small amount of seating outside. All the food is made from scratch, and of high quality - the lentil and bacon soup I had was quite possibly the best I've ever tasted, hearty and just about thick enough to stand the spoon up in, as well as perfectly seasoned. Although the place was empty when I arrived, there was a regular stream of customers throughout my visit. Service was friendly and obliging, both from the young lady who was at the counter, and another (whom I took to be the owner/cook), who appeared from the kitchen behind when things were busy. I particularly appreciated the way both matched their mood to that of their individual customers, sometimes business-like, at other times jokier. There is a rather tempting display of home-baking, and I gave in to the home made chocolate orange cheesecake, which took indulgence to a whole new level - in a word, fabulous. They brew a fine cup of tea, too.The price was extremely reasonable: some big chains would charge you more or less what I paid for the whole lot just for a fancy coffee. Simple, inexpensive yet high-quality food and congenial service is a winning combination: I know exactly where I'll be heading for next time I'm passing that way.

We went to the delightful little town of Melrose to visit the Abbey, which was fantastic. BUT in the process went into Abbey Fine Wines & Cafe to try what my friend said was simply the best scone she has ever had. She was correct, I have never had a scone that was this moist & flavorful; simply amazing. In the process of browsing through the spirits & wine as we enjoyed our coffee & scones, we also found a few things that would travel better in our suitcases than the scones! Special thanks to Malcom Smith for his assistance in making our selections.

The Greenhouse Cafe in Melrose came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. We called in for breakfast as it opened at 8am and were treated to delicious combinations of porridge (with honey & banana) a âGreenhouseâ breakfast (the works) and a made to order poached eggs on toast. Great service, good value and convenient for the town and Abbey.

We use this cafe very regularly and have given it glowing reviews previously. Visited here Saturday morning and it was empty. Ordered some hot rolls and coffee for me and my hubby. They arrived quickly after asking for the bacon to be well done. Quite honestly the food was inedible. The bacon was ROCK hard and tasteless. Hubbyâs black pudding and potato scone were burnt beyond recognition. This was when I saw a big plastic tub in the kitchen containing precooked sausages sitting next to the hot plate. Now makes me think breakfast items are being precooked then microwaved to reheat (certainly tasted like it). For 4 hot rolls and 2 coffees it came to just short of £18!! Took the disgusting rolls home and even the dogs wouldnât eat them! Come on Annieâs Cafe .....get back to your previously high standards. Sorry but it will be a long time before we return. Save your money and go to one of the numerous cafes on Bank Street ....far better quality and a lot cheaper!!

When securing our tickets for the Abbotsford visit we were advised last orders were at 16 30. On completing our visit around 15 30 we arrived at the restaurant to be told that they stopped serving meals at 15 00. Slightly disappointed we settled for soup but sadly it was not what we expected. Disappointing version of a favourite soup. The young staff were enthusiastic and welcoming but the experience disappointing after a great visit to Abbotsford.Hello Richard. Many thanks for the review and apologies for the confusion in serving times in the cafe. The cooked lunch meal service ends at 15:00 with sandwiches, soups and sweet treats still available right through until 16:30 and beyond if the nice weather allows! We will ensure that all the welcome team downstairs are aware of these timings and review signage to avoid any further confusion. We've sent a direct message to ask about the soup and look forward to further feedback on that.Warn regardsMark
