Things to do in Ely
With cafes on both platforms at the very busy Ely rail station it offers just what the traveller, mostly commuters, want. The coffee is good, service is rapid as it has to be, and the staff are friendly and remember their regulars so they know just what you want without even having to ask.
After a pleasant walk around Wicken Fen we had an excellent cream tea at The Docky Hut café. Plenty of outside seating, including several desk chairs â plus a willow den for children to play in. Just need to be beware, if sat outside, of all of the birds trying to pinch your food â I think we saw more wildfowl at the café than when walking around the fen!

The food is fairly average, nice chips though. Breakfast is fine, although the sausages are the cheapest type you can get, and are bland, tasteless and contain fatty deposits and gristle. Everything else is fine, if uninspiring. Prices are higher than average in my experience, but that's possibly due to the location.

Ely's only dedicated vegan and gluten free cafe. Serving delicious food and drinks throughout the day. Located over two floors in the gorgeous grade2 listed 35 Forehill.
What a great find. Everything on the menu vegan AND gluten free and absolutely delicious too. Lots of choice, fresh ingredients and beautifully presented by very friendly and helpful staff. Lots more seating upstairs including a big comfy sofa and a bookshelf full of books. They looked after our big heavy cycling panniers downstairs so that we could go relax upstairs.

The approach road is not particularity enticing, as on the day we visited it was hot and following another vehicle ensured there was a cloud of dust in front of us. However, it was well worth the visit. A lovely coffee shop with lots of attractive options to eat and we opted for a pot of tea for two and a cheese scone each. Very pleased with the quality and cost

I visit regularly and I love the range of choice on the menu, and the value for money is amazing. The staff are always lovely and friendly, and the food is never a disappointment. The baguettes are the best in Ely!

We are a traditional English tearoom, offering cream teas, hot dishes, salads and sandwiches all day, and all freshly prepared to order. It's not 'fast food' and sometimes, especially busy days in the summer, there may be a bit of a wait for the food. It
This is a very well-run long-established little restaurant, situated in one of the most delightful parts of Ely. As well as their regular menu items, always keep a look-out for the couple of novelties, chalked up on the board as special dishes of the day. Usually these are imaginative and excellent (especially the puddings!)Don't be misled by the 'tea room" soubriquet. Whilst they serve a varied range of teas and cakes, it is also perfectly possible to have quite a substantial lunch here. Not to be missed. Thanks andrewjameswarren,Nicely put. It's always interesting to see how others view us. You're right - it's not always easy to know what a tearoom is going to offer, but I'm glad you enjoy the way we do it. I suppose we are 'long-established' now, though I don't pretend we're in the same league as that lovely Ely restaurant The Old Fire-Engine House (51 years+) or the doyenne of tearooms Betty's in Harrogate (founded in the 1930's).

We dropped in here when we stayed at the Royal Standard, for a coffee. Couldn't resist the chocolate brownie, so glad we went.
