Came for lunch, and just got ignored. I eventually went inside and was told rudely that it is table service. Waited again, still ignored. Eventually ordered, but waited ages again for the food. Small portions, bland, very disappointing. Went in to pay, ignored again at the desk. Used to love this place, but has lost its way and they need to have courteous staff, not too much to ask.

Stopped off for lunch on a busy summers weekend. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Delicious ploughmanâs lunch, a little on the expensive side, but typical of a Tiptree tearoom.

Traditional English home made food..
We visited here for Sunday roast lunch, whilst staying at Mersea Island Holiday Park 5 minutes drive away. Four adults & 2 children dined and we had a lovely roast dinner, with starters & desserts. The tea rooms are small, and it was very busy, but the service was very good, and the food was lovely. Must book to avoid being disappointed, as it was very busy for a bank holiday weekend. Imagine this would be even more popular during school holiday times. Choice of chicken/pork £10.95 or beef £11.95 - all of which were very nice. Roast potatoes, and a selection of vegetables. Very pleasant meal, good service, and reasonable prices.

our waiters and food were great. however we were prevented from giving a small bit of bread, cheese and banana to my 2 year old and told that we could only give her restaurant food. she is only 2 and doesn't eat restaurant food so instead of a nutritious snack we had to order cake for her !!!

Independent Cafe Bistro in the heart of Colchester. Serving Speciality coffee and Breakfasts through to Lunch and Evening Supper Clubs. Fully Licenced, 100 seat restaurant including 35m2 outside Courtyard. Vegan and Gluten Free options available.
Was recommended to try this establishment by member of staff at the Castle Museum. He was not wrong. A friendly welcome and comprehensive menu greeted us. Falafel, hummus and salad for me, quiche, salad and chunky chips for her. This was followed by a huge slice of courgette and avocado cake. Delicious!!! We sneaked some caramel shortbread home for later. Pricing very good. It was only on the way home we realised we had a vegetarian lunch. Just goes to show you don't need to eat meat or fish for a great meal.

My 65th birthday and husband surprised me with high tea. Attention to detail yellow rose on the table the biggest happy birthday balloon tied to the seat. The atmosphere was stepping back in time to the parlour in the 1940s accompanied by forties music. The quality of food was outstanding and service was second to none and very personal. A huge thumbs up and worth going out of your way to visit. Great choice of freshly made cakes etc. Considering everything is prepared to order the wait was not long. Thank you Steven Vaughan for the bunch of yellow roses at the end of our tea you made my dayOverall 20 out of ten â¤ï¸

Cafe, serving great coffee & tea. All day menu Selection of wine & beer
I traveled half an hour each way to eat here, based on the reviews. A pet hate of mine is empty tables in tea rooms waiting endlessly for âbookingsâ, so I sat outside on a little table almost on the road. I ordered a Brie and cranberry sandwich on granary served with salad garnish and jackpot crisps, followed by a scone with jam and clotted cream. I thought they had forgotten my sandwich after a 40 minutes wait but it was almost ready. What can I say? It was certainly worth the wait!! Best sandwich Iâve ever had!! I had 2 delicious decaf lattés and then on to the fresh beautiful scone. I was disappointed it hadnât been warmed at first, but I neednât have been because it was superb! The only other time Iâve had clotted cream with scones was in my own tea rooms several years ago and this clotted cream was as good. Certainly worth traveling for. 10/10.Hi Wendy, I am so glad you enjoyed your lunch. It is such a grey area for us as to do we take bookings or not!!! Being so small we worry if people like yourself have made the effort to travel & then be turned away as we are full or like you say we have that short time of reserved signs & empty tables, which I appreciate does not look good!!! Hopefully we will see you again & with a seat inside.
