The Xalapa version of the Puerto de Veracruz legend! The food is very well priced and well prepared. You can sample a number of regional specialties here and the coffee is always excellent. The little cornbread "torta de elote" was surprisingly good.

I went to this cafe because it was so highly rated on Tripadvisor, but I got the impression that maybe people only liked it because of its location next to a park. The location is great (right downtown, just outside the Diego Rivera art museum (which is free but had no Rivera's on display when I visited, only photographs of naked men)), but the coffee is also great, and the service very friendly. My waiter spoke English, which helped, and the cafe con leche I ordered was far superior to the one I had at the Cafe la Parroquia in Veracruz (there's one in Xalapa too). I also got the impression that this was an indoor cafe (it's not) and that it's an internet cafe. Maybe they have wifi, I don't know, but it's really just a very nice, regular cafe.

Veracruz, Mexico Food Guide: 9 Seafood food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Coatepec
We had lunch at this place and were quite satisfied with the offer. They serve traditional Mexican dishes and have several specialties with Coffee-Sauce (chicken, beef, shrimps). These are good, even though as a coffee-lover I would have expected a bit more coffee-taste. Finishing lunch with one of their great cold coffees (equivalent to a dessert) is amazing, especially because it's quite hot in Coatepec. The fact that you cannot pay with debit/credit card was somewhat disappointing for such a touristic place. Overall, this is a good restaurant, but not exceptional.
The only reason I don't give this a full 5 stars is because there's no place to sit; it's kind of a ice cream stand inside of a store, so you have to get your ice cream and then walk around with it (unless the restaurant right next door lets you use their tables, but I doubt that). The ice cream is delicious and original (check out the website with the flavors!), and I have been twice now. Both times the people who worked there were extremely courteous and patient, and likely would have let me try all 18 flavors had I asked! Some are familiar (like their take on tiramisu or red berries), and some are original (there's one with lavender and mezcal!). All are totally original and delicious - so much so that both times I've gone it's been quite cold, and I didn't care - I wanted more of that ice cream! :-)Highly recommended for a day walking around downtown Coatepec!
